I grew up in a middle class family in Nagari which is situated in Gazipur District, a place of historical interest in Bangladesh. It is a peaceful area where Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and all class of people live together. I am the third son among one sister and two brothers. My father is a theater director popularly known as 'Jatra Pala Director' and basically we live off from his income with the backing of all other family members. My father is an entrepreneur who started from the scratch and became successful. I have learnt that hard work, dedication and determination definitely pay off by looking at him. That is why I believe in those words and let the optimism to rule me. I am an optimistic person to the point where I do not give up until the last minute and my positive attitude have led me to apply for this AMA scholarship. My father has inspired me to not only dream but to be a pursuer of it. And now, I am taking one step into achieving the future I have imagined.
Although I have been using a video camera from very young age, I discovered my interest in Film and Media when I was a high school student. My school used to arrange three Days long cultural function at the end of every academic year. As part of that cultural function in 2005, our school staged a short drama on that occasion. I was given the responsibility to direct and make arrangement for the drama as I had previous experience of acting and also because my father was a director. My father helped me a lot in every step of the production as he is a theater director .Our short drama earned a lot of appreciation for me as well as for my team. This little experience of directing drama led my interest to be a film maker in future. As a keen amateur dramatist and writer from a young age, I could often be found making short films or constructing plays with my friends and family, as well as taking on roles in school productions. As my subsequent studies and experience have confirmed, film offers an opportunity to translate this desire to communicate through story, visual arts and drama in a single medium, explaining my dedication and passion for film from my childhood to the present day.
I studied English Literature at BA and MA level which has helped me with my essay writing and editing skill. As literature student, I love reading, and have completed dozens of short stories and, more recently, short film scripts. In my studies so far, I have developed my analytical skills in literature, and have become fascinated with the ideas and concepts behind poetry, drama and both historical and modern literature, such as 'Regeneration' by Pat Barker, which enlightened me, in a darkly emotive way, to the psychological battles suffered in WW1.
I have always been fascinated by every aspect of film, from the way in which various creative industries interact in the process of production to the way in which they are received by the audience and the impact they can have on cultures, societies and individual lives. That is why I joined 'Film Factory Production House' as a trainee but with my excellent performance and good abilities, I quickly got officially employed a full time employee. And recently, I have been nominated to the position of Chief Assistant Director. Moreover, I have extensive two years experience of teaching in Poroshmoni commerce collage as an English lecturer.
I want to study in Korea National University of Arts because the goal of this university is to nurture students as creative professionals with artistic sensibility as well as knowledge, skill and experience in a rapidly changing environment. Students prepare themselves to become professionals with accumulated film-making experience through: intensive practical courses by majors, such as directing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, sound, and production; and other various courses to further develop theoretical thinking.
This university is the first national school of film TV and multimedia based on contemporary based in South Korea. The School of Film currently owns an image technology center which has expensive image facilities and manages 5 studios, 90 practice rooms, 12 projection rooms, darkrooms, and classrooms. In addition, the school professionally and systematically manages and maintains more than 1,000 educational facilities. Through the image technology center, the maintenance and integration of educational facilities and classrooms is impeccably managed. Moreover, the school has a board collection of top- of-the-line equipment. In spite of having outstanding faculty, the school invites national and international artists and experts in movie, media, multimedia, and animation for special lectures to discuss global trends and help students to fully understand the intricacies of producing in the field.
It is true that Korean movies made me interested in South Korea. But what made me fell in love with South Korea is its culture. Even though both countries are Asian countries, there are slight differences in their value systems like Bangladesh being a South Asian country while South Korea being an East Asian country. I can admit that because the remarkable work ethics of Korean workers are known to be the factor of their success which is something not easily replicable as it is deeply ingrained in their culture. This cultural interest has led me even to engage in different Korean cultural activities. I have attended Korean festivals organized by KOICA where I could get a lot of different cultural experiences. Those experiences made me realize that Koreans are friendly people and South Korea is such an interesting country and wanted to experience these things in first hand. I think Korea will help me to get different cultural experiences to accomplish my goal to work in international film production houses and companies
When I find the time playing guitar gives me a chance to channel my creative talents, which I believe I possess, and gives me a chance to explore within the realms of music, which plays such an important role in film. Also I volunteer twice a week at our local youth club for the disadvantaged children, helping in any way I can to entertain and teach them.Film is something I strongly believe in, and I would put my all into it. Armed with these goals and dreams, I have decided to apply for MA in Film and Media to acquire an in-depth knowledge. I truly believe that by getting this AMA scholarship, I will get an invaluable experience that will help me to attain my goals and to expand my potential in the future.
