As the eldest brother of 13 members big family,I I understood that leadership is the ability to guide and inspire people toward a shared goal that is valued and anticipated by many as I have been playing as a key roles in my family development such as supporting financial, guiding my younger brothers and sisters to walk on the right way for their futures. By my supporting with empathy, setting a good example and providing guidance, my younger sister has a chance to take an opportunity to serve the community as sexual reproductive health supervisor and the other one sister has been serving to the ethnic minority as a schoolteacher in Kachin ethnic controlled area.
To show my leadership skill by beginning with my academic years, during My technical university student period, I took the responsibility to represent technical university (TU) students as student union committee representative. On the other hand, along with Ministry of Information (MOI), I founded book club for students for universities in Bhamo District. During those times, I and committee members expose to get students'rights such as right to get good education, freedom of speech, equal rights within different religions, and different ethnicities. I raised the issue on behalf of the students that we should have access computers and practical room, and to access educational resources in university when the prime minister of Kachin state visited to the university. As a result, a new university library with free WIFI came out and practical room with enough resources like computers for practical, require materials for experiment. Additionally, those kinds of resources and supporting from university, our junior students won the third prize in competition among universities across the country.
Likewise , While I was University student, I took an opportunity for the position of Kachin Youth representative of Church and Kachin ethnic people, I shared my skills with empathy to youth in Bhamo by sharing motivation session to high school students, guiding how to write cover letter to apply jobs, and leading in Youth campaign such as reduce using plastics, trash recycling, safe migration collaborating with IOM and ministry of information department(MIO)-Bhamo . By my supporting, around 20 youths from our community have been working in high profile non-governments organisation, INGOs, and some have been working as trainers to emergency in education (EiE). They are becoming humanitarian and development workers and have been serving for the community developments and humanitarian assistances.
With the transition from academic to professional life, As I worked in humanitarian organisation, I have been doing in collaborating with Ministry of Education department in doing Mine risk education awareness session. I conducted Humanitarian Mine Risk education TOT training to schoolteacher and schoolteacher then deliver awareness session to the students. While I worked for over 5 years as trainer, team leader, Partnership technical officer at Danish Refugee Council (DRC), I and Team member have been conducted around (500) schoolteachers and over 20000 students from Kachin state including Government control area and Kachin ethnic controlled areas. Not only for Education department, but also We also collaborated with Government of administration department and conducted TOT training to Department of social warfare staff to be able to deliver awareness session to remote village. As a result of those awareness sessions and TOT trainings, thousands of students and community are raising their awareness on risks of weapon contamination and changed from unsafe behaviours to safe behaviours. Furthermore, the landmine and ERW accidents have been decreasingly till the military detained the country at 1 February 2021, To show my initiatives, I am the very first person to be able to implement Humanitarian mine action in Kachin ethnic arm group-controlled areas and I was the very first person who have go a chance to initiate humanitarian mine action activities in Central Rakhine. I was a member of initiating to establish humanitarian mine risk working group (MRWG). During my time in Rakhine state, I delivered safety briefing and risk education session to UN,INGOs,CBOs,CSOs from Rakhine state. And also, I conducted risk education awareness sessions to the diverse groups including Rohingya and Muslim community. By collaborating with Government departments and MRWG, over hundreds of mine victims received cash assistances, and rehabilitations support. Thousands of Men, women, youth and children who received awareness sessions on landmine and weapon contaminations, changed their unsafe behaviour to safe behaviour.
Based on my experience , I have managed to improve my knowledge and use my abilities to obtain a better result for the conflict affected people to improve positive coping mechanism. I believe by improving my professional skills and joined the scholarship I can make a positive impact and contribute to reduce weapon contamination risks and improve life saving of conflict affected people across Myanmar.
