Chevening scholarship application essay

Chevening is looking for individuals who will be future leaders or influencers in their home countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your own leadership and influencing skills to support your answer.

Hello, I'm applying to the Chevening scholarship and would like some feedbacks on my essay!!

In 2019, In my first year in college, I competed for the first time in a national competition called the e-health challenge, a local competition to innovate new solutions in the medical sector in various thematics such as Clinical/Hospital information systems, Telemedicine, Home medical assistance, IOT & Medical application and Artificial Intelligence in medicine. I had this idea named it later CodeBlue inspired by a friend that suffers from syncope. CodeBlue is a medical smart watch capable of predicting if someone is going to pass and sending an alert with a GPS location through GSM to the closest emergency hospital and a chosen close relative. At the beginning of the competition, I recruited members based on the skill sets needed to achieve a completely balanced team. I started first by explaining the project idea and dynamic needed to make a Minimum viable product and identify our market. By the end of the competition, we were able to make a prototype and we made it to the finals and won the 3rd prize but it did not stop there as we had funding to help with the growth of our project. As a result of this project, people with syncope that used our project reported that their feeling of lack of independence had faded away and that they were feeling more and more social acceptance due to the rising of their confidence. In 2020, I participated In the UTM innovation challenge, a competition organized by my university to generate innovative solutions allowing selected candidates to develop their entrepreneurial skills and refine their project ideas. Nearly 186 students and young graduates, spread over the various UTM establishments, applied to take part in this entrepreneurial adventure. I succeeded in gathering a brilliant team with different skill sets to help me develop my Idea Libraille. Libraille is a refreshable tablet made for blind people, able to transcode plain text, an e-mail, and a book to braille language in a single click with the ability to type in braille and save it digitally. During this adventure, I encouraged group decision-making by scheduling multiple meetings to brainstorm and share suggestions regarding possible business approaches. Through this whole process, I was able to encourage everyone in the room to contribute and provide their ideas and opinions. I was able to gain my team's trust by discussing project matters with the team members in a straightforward manner. We were able to make it to the finals and win 3rd place with a prize of 5000TND and an incubation program with Tunis International Center for Digital Cultural Economy that allowed us later to effectively realize our startup and obtain opportunities for fund raising in 2022.

This is a good start to responding to the question. As we both know, the Chevening scholarship is looking for emerging leaders and influencers in their home countries. Therefore, a mere college experience with amateur leadership is not going to be competitive enough for the applicant to gain the attention and consideration of the reviewers. It will not be enough to qualify him past the first round. While this is a detailed explanation of the experience, it does not qualify as a representation of possible national or local leadership. That sort of leadership comes with work experience and life lessons on the job. These qualifiers are not in this presentation making this an ill effective leadership and influencing example. A compressed version of this could be used to show a progression leading into the leadership and influencing abilities of the applicant within the professional world he belongs to.
