NYU supplement essay
Ever since the class of 2017 was announced and we threw our caps into the air, I was lost. I had no idea as to what I wanted to do with my future. All I knew was it had something to do with science, but science is a vast field with various subcategories so which one was the one for me? I have always been particularly amazed by the human body; How cells unseen to the naked eye monitor everything perfectly and how the slightest of alterations can result in disastrous changes. The way our bodies detect, recognize and respond to unusual conditions, how the cells have a memory of encountering a virus previously when its faced with it again is astonishing. Primarily, studying about immunity and infectious diseases in high school is what sparked the interest, and I know I have only scraped the surface with what I have learnt. So, I decided I wanted to major in biology and what better place to explore and understand the human body than the city with rapidly growing medical breakthroughs and high-tech facilities at NYU Abu Dhabi.
Competition and challenge are what keep me motivated to excel at my studies; thus I always had an eye out for highly competitive universities. NYU was undoubtedly at the top of the list and with a campus just down the street, it was a perfect match! Being an expatriate myself, the cultural diversity among the students is something I am very fond of and see myself being an ideal fit in the community at NYUAD. Studying Biology at NYU will open doors to opportunities such as volunteering in a medical environment and research labs. The study abroad program is also something I look forward to in my life at NYU. It would be a great way to get a taste of the different cultural environments like those of London and Madrid, as well as a fast pace life like those of New York City and Shanghai. From the diverse community to the vast campus and the academic excellence, I cannot imagine a better college where my outgoing personality would thrive.
