"Innovation is what distinguishes a leader and a follower."
Leadership by Robin S. Sharma is not about a title or a designation. It's about impact, influence and inspiration; Impact involves getting results, influence is spreading the passion you have for your work, and to inspire team-mates..." Steve Jobs further said "Innovation is what distinguishes a leader and a follower." This is my ideology about leadership and these quotes shows that leadership is about innovative ways to serve and bring happiness to the greatest number of people.
Over the years, the issue of community justice has been paramount in the community where my university is located which was why I was actively involved in my faculty's clinical activities and it led to my appointment as Manager of the faculty's law clinic which is the Social Justice Arm of the Faculty in my fourth year where led over 100 students. My activities as a manager led to prison visitation which led to the release of 11 prisoners that have been in prison for a long time awaiting trial. The release was the highest ever recorded in the history of the law clinic and was facilitated because I suggested we collaborated with the Legal Aid Council and the Chief Judge of the State. This was a build on the Pre-trial activities which include regular Prison Visits to provide free legal services for inmates awaiting trial and those on trial, to secure the release of indigents who were victims of police harassment and have been unlawfully detained.
Further to this is the innovation I brought to the law clinic was the idea of "project live love" which was to celebrate Valentine's Day with gifts and food supplies at the school of the physically disabled in a nearby community which is the first of its kind in the law clinic. Though the idea came late before Valentine's Day, I was able to raise a substantial amount within four days for the purchase of food, provision and relief items for the disabled.
Being the manager of the law clinic, I ensured we visited all the schools within and around the community to sensitize school children on Child Rights. I also coordinated several enlightenment programme on the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 in which I spoke and enlightened people about the importance and how to effectively use the Freedom of Information Act 2011 to make the government accountable.
My innovation on the use of tax awareness as a means to improve the country's tax base lead to the re-introduction of the Enlightenment and Engagement Tax Team whose primary aim is to go out and talk to the public about paying tax and other means of communication which tremendously improved the country's revenue generation through taxation.
I have a passion to make my society a better place beginning with my immediate sphere of influence and gaining the Chevening Scholarship would help me learn and discover more on leadership as wells as a platform to meet world great leaders and other upcoming young great leaders.
I really find your essay very fascinating, but with little errors to take note of where led where I led, we collaborated we collaborate. The last paragraph isn't necessary if the panel sees the essay fit you will gain the scholarship, you can use that for another essay that where reasons to be awarded this scholarship is being asked. you also need to work on your punctuation most especially commas
Seki2yi, first of all your introduction is to long, trying to talk about what others say about leadership. You have to talk about you think about leadership not what others think.
Secondly, the only leadership role I think is important to Chevening is the last one where you talked about the innovation of task use, all others are not good enough.
Try to explain these better and you can build up on it.
Please do these and your essay will be competitive. But now I must tell you it's not OK.
@henry15
Thanks. I am so grateful
@Duzaho
Thank You, Will work on that
Holt Educational Consultant - / 15385 Oluwasikemi , you can't just keep listing your leadership and influencing activities in this manner. While I can see that you do have some relevant activities that can lead the reviewer to believe that you are a potential leader and influencer in your country, the fact that you simply narrated these as an outline rather than an in-depth analysis and discussion of your related legal activities lessens the impact of the essay. In order to revise this essay, you will need to create a focus and draw the attention of the reviewer to the issue of community justice.
First, you need to explain why you were involved in this. How does it relate to your profession? Are you a pro-bono lawyer for some people? You are the manager of a law clinic. Great. You have the foundation for your leadership discussion. Go on to explain what the Freedom of Information Act is and why it must be used to make the government accountable. Aside from giving speeches, how else do you lead and influence people in relation to this law. If you find it hard to justify a leadership and influencing path based on the law, then you need to find a different, law related incident to speak of. For example, as a practicing lawyer, how did you prove the innocence of a client and how did you influence the jury to believe you? You get the idea. Now, run with it.
Thanks Holt. Will definitely run with the idea

The Freedom of Information Act is a legislation that guarantees the right to information within the control of public institutions to all Nigerians, regardless of age, class, or occupation. It gives the 'right to know' to every Nigerian. I spoke and enlightened people about the importance and how to effectively use the Freedom of Information Act 2011 to make the government accountable. I was able to guide four members of the community on how to request how local government funds meant for the payment of local government staff salaries was spent and they got an adequate response.
