This is first draft of my SOP and i want to make it more effective...need credible suggestion regarding the same.
Being an automobile enthusiast from childhood, my early interest circulated around an automobile which includes collections of automobile magazines, spending time and watching TV shows related to the same. This enriched my knowledge regarding assembly lines of supercars, car modification, among many others. All these experiences resulted in an incessant quest to know about every kind of automobile. To take my passion into the formally organized state and to bring the element of academic updation in it, I decided to pursue my graduation in "Automobile engineering" after completion of my senior secondary schooling.
My college life was a mix of experience. Each day was either a challenge or learning. Automobile as my specialization added to my pleasure and the subjects which I liked the most are Automotive Engines and Transmission system, Automotive Chassis, Combustion and Heat transfer and Vehicle Dynamics. And, my participation in projects like BAJA SAEINDIA (-a competition where teams of undergraduate students are asked to design and build a single-seater off-road vehicle and then test the endurance of the vehicle through various performance metrics.) as in-charge of Transmission and Manufacturing sub-teams had provided me an excellent opportunity to apply my classroom knowledge in practical, like for example, how to determine the performance parameters of a vehicle by using vehicle dynamics concepts. Being an In-charge of these two teams, I was responsible for the designing and installation of the transmission system in our car as well as for choosing the manufacturing method and assigning of material for the car components that we would design. Apart from that, I also served as member of pit crew team during the race event and my participation in this team project had helped me to acquire the qualities of Team spirit, peer relationship, resilience, presentation skills and managing abilities and had also helped me to learn about Project Plan's, DFMEA, and Design Validation Plan and their importance for successfully bringing our design on ground. These all qualities have made me more proficient at analyzing and solving engineering problems. The sheer thrill and satisfaction that such participation gave me in discovering new concepts has driven me to make my decision of applying for post graduate studies in motorsports engineering.
My involvement in such projects had also helped to me grab accolades like Technology Innovation Award for successful implementation of "Variable Ratio Brake Pedal" in our baja vehicle. The advantage of which is that our vehicle gets an improved braking efficiency as well as driver gets less aggressive feel during panic braking as the pedal ratio changes instantly i.e. increases with pedal travel, which is what favorable for off-road conditions; and had also helped me to present a manuscript in National Symposium of green technologies on "Use of customized manual gearbox of Mahindra Alfa/Ape Piaggio along with continuously variable transmission (CVT) in BAJA vehicles to reduce CO2 emission along with enhancement of performance"
The pleasure of my learning was augmented by the continuous support and special encouragement from my professors for my interest in learning and research, which helped to execute my Final year project on "Self Inflating Tire System" under guidance of Prof. Gaurav Saxena. In this project, we attached an another supplementary system to the compression unit of air brake system of commercial vehicles, in order to keep the tire inflated under an event of puncture by continuous supply of air to tire or to maintains a tire pressure as needed to traverse different kinds of path under dynamic condition.
I took my engineering studies to the next level by getting hand on experience in the field by doing vocational trainings in C.S.M.T and in AUDI service center. During these trainings, I inculcated about the basic functioning characteristics of whole of the vehicle sub-systems, had learned the servicing & maintenance practices being performed on automobiles by erudite personnel. Stepping away from my academics, I have always been an active participant in extra-curricular activities right from my inchoate phase and had been a member of various organizing committees during my college time.
To conclude, since my interest lies very much so within the realm of Automobile Engineering. I believe a master's degree in Motorsports Engineering from IUPUI would allow me the opportunity to join some motorsports team in near future. And, I strongly feel that the guidance of the capable, motorsports research-oriented faculties like Peter Hylton and Andrew Borme at IUPUI will make my graduate study a fruitful endeavor. During my graduate studies, I want to base my research on technologies which would be beneficial to both motorsports as well as production vehicles, and I believe that the above qualifications, along with that of my research temperament would make me an excellent prospect for graduate study and I sincerely hope that you would share my confidence by accepting me into your esteemed institution.
