'Cinema, photography, and my phases' - Ithaca College Supplement

Prompt: Why did you select this specific academic program? Attach an additional sheet if necessary.

My Major: "Cinema and Photography"

My Response: Throughout my life, I have been through a few "phases." First I did card tricks, then I liked to juggle, which somehow morphed into skiing, and then I caught the card trick bug again. Throughout these phases, I thought that what I was doing at the specific moment, was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. However, I was wrong. I wasn't going to be a magician, I wasn't going to be a juggler, and I defiantly wasn't going to become a professional skier. But there was one aspect of each phase that just stuck with me. It was creating videos. I made card trick videos, I made juggling videos, and I even tried to make skiing videos. But now, I just love to make videos, which is what I have been up to for the last four years. I choose the Cinema and Photography Major because I love taking pictures and creating videos. I've finally figured out what I want to do with my life.

Thank you in advance! It means alot! -Alec

P.S: Do you have any ideas on how I could make the first list flow better?

Try changing the FIRST line with some grabber, exclamation, surprise!

First I did card tricks, then I liked to juggle, which somehow morphed into skiing, and then I caught the card trick bug again.

First I did card tricks and then I got absorbed into juggling and then into skiing and then back again to card tricks and it just went back and forth.

Throughout these phases, I thought that what I was doing at the specific moment, was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Change throughout, you started with this word and there aren't too much between...

Everything else is fine and I know that Ithaca Supplement is only 250 characters and it make's it very hard to write anything beautifully, well, in this small space!!!

Thanks! I was wondering about the 250 character limit. Do you know if i'm allowed to go over if I attach an additional sheet? Thanks

Sorry I don't know about that yet. As far as I know it's the same. But I will be sure about it soon meanwhile just keep improving it. But it would be best if you just stay and do whatever in these 250 characters. In most cases it's the same for additional sheet.

Thanks, I sent Ithaca's admissions department a message regarding this. I'll post an update when I hear back from them. My only issue is that I am way over the 250 character limit. I'm around 800 characters right now. Any suggestions for shortening it dramatically? Lol -Alec

I am also in this problem. 250 Characters is really short! I mean come on it's the one and only supplement essay for Ithaca and you have to express why you selected "THAT" Major in 250 characters! That's only possible if you can say everything straight forward. Just the things needed.

For your case, you will have to delete all the other things you have mentioned that you liked.
I just don't see any other way, unless you rewrite the whole thing again!
