Hello everyone.
I would appreciate any criticisms of my essay, since I know that it can be better. I just can't put my finger on what that would be.

In an essay of 300 words or less, please discuss your academic interests and/or professional goals.

A fresh palette full of oil colors and the scent of turpentine mean more to me than just a hobby. From as far back as I can remember I have wanted to land a job in the visual arts. Throughout my years of taking art classes, I have been able to advance my artistic abilities, create works that are more personal and express ideas that percolate my imagination through art. Although I like experimenting with different kinds of art styles, I find myself in the bizarre world of surrealism repeatedly. My proficiency and fascination in art relates to my professional aspirations by giving me insight into the art world and preparing me with the essentials to study art at a higher level.

As my life becomes more complicated, I want my art to reflect those changes and ultimately help me find balance. This natural impulse strengthens my artistic ambitions. My educational objectives include enrolling in college, working towards a degree, and ultimately pursuing a career within the visual arts. My professional goals of becoming a visual artist would involve hopefully gaining exposure, and in some way contributing to the continuation of art. I dream that one day I could be represented by an art gallery, exhibit my artwork in art galleries or museums or teach art in higher learning institutions. I would also like to take business courses on the side to learn how to market my work. Intense competition and a relatively low chance of success will force me to undertake many changes and through this, the evolution of my creativity will flourish greatly. I expect my education at this college to help me attain my goals by giving me the experience I need for the job I truly want.

I like it! This is what they are looking for. No university or scholarship committee wants to know what you did or how good you are. They want to know who you are and why you did what you did ;). You want to make them slam their fist on the table and be like "I have to meet this person." You need something that makes you stand out from everyone else. Why are you different than others? Why should you get in instead of him or her?
