Coming into the world with a long life fascination for science, I have always been interested in the part of geology that involves engineering applications. As I was growing up I realized that I could make a difference in people's lives and also contribute enormously towards the improvement of the nation's economy. That is why I have chosen to purse my career in petroleum engineering. This unique and interesting profession will give me the opportunity to serve humanity by exploring energy resources that we use in our everyday life.

In the process of reaching my desired goal in life, I overcame a lot of adversities. Being one of the first to attend college in my family, it was extremely difficult to receive the amount of support I needed to further my education. After my secondary school graduation in 2005, I lost hope entirely due to the lack of funds to pay for my college .Later that year I got a job as a stocker in one of the biggest warehouses in Nigeria, hoping that someday the Nigerian economy would get better and I would be able to go back to school, instead things became worse than they used to be. My family was in great tragedy. Later that year my family and I were offered to relocate to the United States as legal immigrants and we happily accepted the offer and moved. Upon entering the United States I knew that With my past experience came an even better responsibility and confidence, Increasing the level of determination in me and knowing that I was given a fresh opportunity to pursue my dreams.

Petroleum engineering which I love is such a unique and rare branch of engineering which offered by a limited number of universities in the nation. Due to this limited opportunity, a number of students interested in this field of study have strongly been influenced and discouraged from pursuing a career in this field, unfortunately reducing the number of applicants and graduates we have in the field. Despite this discouragement I have never doubted myself or felt reluctant to purse my dreams in this career, instead my determination and ambition keeps me more focused.

Due to special geological features Texas has. It has been blessed with a lot of energy resources which are used in our everyday lives. Luckily University of Texas has been one of the schools that are privileged to be part of this natural endowments of the state of Texas. The University of Texas has been well known for years to be the top petroleum engineering research institution in the world. This is why I have chosen to come down from California to Texas to purse my dreams.

Looking at most students in College, a great number of them have no idea of what their future would be like In the next couple of years, but contrary to this, I have a firm plan of where I would see myself in the next 5 years . In the next 5 years I see myself completing my postgraduate studies in petroleum / geosciences engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. As a well determined person in life, I believe that with hard work it is possible to achieve whatever you desire in life despite the circumstances that pass your way. That is why I chose to participate in research internships this summer at the university of Santa Barbara California. Toward pursuing my dreams I have taken a number of classes such as Chemistry, geology ,math and physics that helped me build a firm foundation of my field of study although I received a "c" grade in one of my calculus classes last year despite the slack i was still determined to continue to the next level. After my graduation from graduate school, I plan on securing a good job in one of the top oil refineries in the world.

With a great plan and idea of how my future will be in the next couple of years, I have chosen to work hard towards achieving these goals. And I would be overwhelmed if to have the privilege to purse this dream at the University Of Texas at Austin. Now I am convinced that with determination and persistence, I will not only succeed at UT but also contribute enormously to the LONGHORN community.

Wow! This is a good sentence. However, I made a small change in order to make it completely correct. But the sentence evokes emotion in the reader very powerfully. I turned it into 2 sentences.

contribute enormously towards to the...

Petroleum engineering, the field I love, i s such a unique and rare branch of engineering which offered by a limited number of universities in the nation.

I think you did a great job outlining your plan for the next five years. Type five instead of 5.
This is definitely impressive.
