What intrigues you? Tell us about one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.), and explain its significance to you.
One of the most fascinating elements of modern society is the internet. Never in history has another form of communication been so quickly adopted as the primary way of transferring data. The internet, since its inception, has exponentially grown in use throughout the world. Currently, most of our everyday activities are dependent, someway or another, upon the internet. While there exist some people who skeptically shun this increased use of the internet, I instead embrace it. Of all my interests, I find the internet, and its infinitely expanding opportunities most fascinating. I find the potential-the abilities to shop, watch videos, interact with friends, play games, run businesses, etc.-so vastly endless and interesting. While some question that this Age of Information is leading to a decrease in humanity, I have seen concrete counter-evidence. On reddit.com-a site that allows users to share information and links on various topics that range from a school page to a compilation of all things funny-there exists a true sense of community. Here, I once saw a certain user post that his wallet, which held all the money to his name, was lost somewhere in the massive New York City. The community got involved in the post and, merely hours later, another user had contacted the man and returned to him his wallet. It is this sense of community and this potential for mass cooperation that makes the internet a truly fascinating place to me.
