Philippines inspired me to craft my own art; SOP - TRANSFER

Hello, I am an art student from the Philippines but unfortunately I don't appreciate what my college is offering me. I want to transfer to SCAD to become the artist I wish to be... Going away from my country will also help me be independent and focus more on my studies. I hope you can help me with my essay, the grammar and such. I don't want it to sound dramatic/personal but informative and just and professional. But through this essay, one can learn something about me. Please be honest and tell me what's lacking. This is my first draft.

One can pursue a degree in thousands of schools everywhere while others can learn a lot through facing life challenges - what sums all the learning is what one intends to keep for self improvement. I am applying to SCAD because I have no doubt it will make me not only a better artist but also a strong individual ready to face the future.

I was born and raised in the Philippines which gave me all the inspiration I need to craft my own art. At first, my parents do not support my fondness in art because it plays minor role in our society and they wanted me to be more than what I dream of. I have no choice but to grow up and understand the environment I live in instead of being a naĂŻve kid perfectly normal for a young age. However, I remain faithful to my dreams and received a full scholarship for my college education in 2009.

Story-telling brought me to my pursuit in art. I adore how a story can create such impact to a person that it can produce pure emotions that sometimes we suppress ourselves to show of course, with reasons. At a young age, I was enthralled how I am able to invite people to listen and see a world that once existed only in my imagination. Thus begins my aspiration to become a filmmaker. My dream is to tell stories that depict reality which its truthfulness can be mistaken for fiction. But life interrupted me for a moment. After three years of struggling in college balancing real life disorder versus artistic motivation, numerous unsuccessful goals laid in a perfect timeline and a lot of growing up to do - I can honestly say that I have been to worst but with it I was able to see how far I will put to waste if I do not stand up and continue the walk to my goal. I want to see where I will be someday. I believe the very first step is to believe in what I can do as an artist and as a person.

Just like every little thing in this world, I too need a foundation to rely for my future and aspirations. I want to prove myself that SCAD will be a stronger institution for my education. I am applying to transfer for a B.F.A. in Production Design in SCAD Savannah. Production Design gives authenticity to the world a storyteller tries to empower through words. What I will learn from this degree will serve as an ingredient to my future endeavors. I understand the sacrifices I shall be willing to commit for this decision and I know how important and contributing this can be for my self-growth. Education is more than books and theories, grades and compliments - it is what one chooses to pick up despite all challenges and that with my decisions in life will make me the person I will be proud of one day.

Hello,

As you may already know, SCAD is the TOP art school in the United States of America. Admissions is very very difficult. Because of this, your SOP needs to be really strong. Out of a scale of 1-10, this SOP is about a 3. There is nothing unique here. Why SCAD? You do not talk about any of the resources of the school that you plan on utilizing. There is a strategy for applying to artistic programs in that your SOP should match your submitted portfolio. So whatever your portfolio contains should also form the basis for your SOP. So if your portfolio contains paintings and several sketches, your SOP should focus on the qualities of SCAD that will strengthen your talents in that area. We can help here.

Hope this helps.

"I was born and raised in the Philippines which gave me all the inspiration I need to craft my own art."

Can you elaborate on this? Why is being born in Philippines all the inspiration compared to being born in Turkey?
