"Are there any significant experiences you have had, or accomplishments you have realized, that have helped you define you as a person?"
When I was a child my mum always told me to go out and have fun. I didn't know why, others don't get the chance to always go out and play and yet I am forced to. I didn't understand her at first. But now, I do. We get to enjoy life purely only once. When we were young, we didn't worry about things, we were not time conscious and even how much we play, only energy is lost, nothing more. I was then a very playful kid.
Things now are different, when I think of having fun, I still have to think whether I have other appointments to attend or tests to study. Wherever I go, whatever I do, fun or not, there would still be something in my head that says you still have to this and that. Right now, it is always about experience not enjoyment anymore. I guess that is the reason why we have friends, to enjoy the experiences of life unconsciously.
Among all of us, siblings and cousins, I am considered to be luckiest which is fair since I have been spending three-fourths of my teenage life at school or studying. As a result of diligence, I had travelled abroad already. So when we get together, my uncles and aunties would always praise me, then I would smile, and say " sinuwerte lang po,". When I need help, my family will always be there. I stay humble and loved by my family.
At school, I am not the nerdy type, but my friends are. Well, not really, but they sure are smart. I and my friends are the candidates for the top 10 list, but we never pull each other down. I am sort of the leader of our clique --- I usually come up with ideas for a certain activity or project, and eventually manage the activity. I am known by teachers with my ability and passion to lead.
About four months ago, the student council (SC) election was to take place. And I started my own party list. I, of course, was running for president. From what I heard, we were the most promising team , since most of us were previous officer of the student council. On the other hand, the second team was leaded by a fellow SC officer, but his grandfather has given big contribution to our school, so the SC adviser was on his side. Suddenly, a problem came up, someone from either my team or the other team has to withdraw his/her position. Like what I said, the SC adviser was on his side, so the problem became ours. One of us had to back out.
After I got the news, I called for a meeting right away. Voting to evict somebody out of the list was not right for me, so as the president I had to choose somebody to take out of the list. I knew there is still an open position for me, as board of director which is chosen by the administration. So, I took myself out and give everybody else a chance to show their talents. I had been an officer of the SC for two years, so the administration would definitely choose me as board of director, and fortunately, they did. Even if the board of director is just second to the president, but I believe that a great leader's courage to fulfill her vision comes from passion not position. I am a strong, competent and fair-minded leader.
In this shrinking world we are living in right now, we need not just good, but the best professionals. We need the best scientist to resolve our planet, best mathematicians to solve the equation of our problem, best leaders to lead us to a better, cleaner earth, and most importantly, we need the best citizens to do the rest. Things we do, do not only affect the place we are occupying but also our personality. Do not let anyone tell you that you have to be a particular person. Be unique. Be what you feel.
