If you could engage in an activity at NYU, what would it be and how would you envision it impacting the larger community?
I would join Village Records but I would attempt to make changes and propose new ideas to the students who run the organization. I want to recommend that the club set up a small, monthly music festival in which NYU artists could perform. One goal of the society would be to make sure to include musicians of all genres, building on the ever growing diversity of the university and New York City. I feel I could be a great asset to the already successful label with my great organization skills. (496 characters)

Describe a trait or characteristic that has been passed along by your family. Why do you like/dislike this aspect of yourself?
My parents have always taught me to be a giving person. "It is always better to give than to receive" has been instilled into my mind since I was young. Helping my elderly neighbor rake her yard or collecting food for the poor during our church's annual Thanksgiving food drive are ways my parents and I have always given to others. Even if I am not verbally thanked for doing something nice, the feeling of knowing that it was the right thing to do is all the thanks I need. (477 characters)

How did you spend your most recent summer vacation?
This summer I went to Nashville, D.C., Chicago, and Key West. However, the majority of my summer was spent visiting my grandparents in XXX, Iowa, a small town on the Mississippi River where my mother grew up. While we were there, due to heavy rains, the Mississippi rose and flooded the downtown area. In order to prevent water from entering buildings, my family and I volunteered to sandbag. Our hard work paid off when the water receded and there was very little damage done to the town. (498 characters)

thanks everyone

Your first answer is really good. I like how you talked about what you could do for the club.

"It is always better to give than to receive" has been instilled into my mind since I was young.
Something about that sentence seems off to me, I don't know what. Maybe you could put something before the quote like "the saying..." I'm not sure. It could just be me haha.

Your third answer is really interesting!

While we were there, due to heavy rains, the Mississippi rose and flooded the downtown area.

Fix that sentence a little. It rained so heavily while we were there that the Mississippi rose and flooded the downtown area. Something along those lines.

I would leave out make changes in the first answer... I think propose new ideas already says it in a charming way.

Third answer is of course brilliant but maybe paraphrase it a bit at the end saying something like "As there was little damage to the town we did not care about our backs hurting"
