Dear friends:

I'm preparing for the CLEP "College composition". I'm not a native english speaker, and that's why Im really scared about It. I have read some essays and advices for making It better... but I have serious doubts.

I picked this topic to practice: "How computers changed the way we work compared to 100 years ago" and tried to do my best. I will appreciate any feedback to make me improve.

Thank you very much!!

Computers are intended to make our life easier, faster and more comfortable. Many people say that too much technology makes us lazy and we become so used to do many things the easy way, that we forget how to work properly or even how to use our mind and own effort to solve problems using our brain. Can't we live with them, but neither without them?

Computers allow us to record huge amounts of information in a small space, keep It organized and accessible in a fast and orderly manner and share instantly our information with people across the world in a blink of an eye. We just have to think, for instance, how all the records of the activity of our company during a year could fit in a small pen-drive and even more, how we could transfer It to our colleagues in Australia or Canada in a few seconds. Obviously this task, 100 years ago, would had taken weeks to compile, some shelves in our office to fit, and probably a couple of weeks to reach those places around the wold.

Many of the greatest humankind achievements during the last century would probably have not been reached without the use of computers. The way we can manage information and how fast we can do complex calculations with them would hardly have a human equivalent. Let's think, for instance, about the space travels that have taken place during the last decades: The amount of mathematic calculations and the precision required would never have been achieved without the use of computers.

Moreover, if we add to this argument the existence of the Internet, we can realize, that computers have not only changed the way we work, they've changed the way we communicate, research, have fun, or even love. Without any doubt, this tandem computers-internet has changed the path humankind walked during these last 100 years and It has changed our destinies for good.

All of us have heard something like "I could't work today, my computer was broken". For sure we have reached such a level of dependency on these machines that working without them has became more than impossible. Is It then a question of laziness? Obviously not. Computers have become a key tool, probably the only tool we use at work. Without them, not only our jobs would not be possible, but the world would not be the same.

Many people argue that too much dependence on technology is bad; it makes us lazy, get us to forget our basics and let our brain idle.

Can't we live with them, but neither without them?

.... this sounds confusing... better re-phrase

Many of the greatest humankind achievements during the last century would probably have not been reached without the use of computers

During the last century, many great achievements of the man would not have been possible in the absence of computers.
