Researcher from Stanford University, California developed new technology in detecting THC existence. THC is the active compound of cannabis or commonly known as weed or marijuana. The compound can be detected in saliva which is a viscous liquid within mouth.
Shan Wang's breakthrough technology using mobile device utilizes nanoparticle system that clasps THC molecules. Sensor will indicate THC from electromagnetic reaction of the components aftermath.
Several states in America have a differentiation about cannabis utilization regulation. There are twenty three states that allow weed for medical treatment and another four states for recreational use. In contrast, for driving regulation, there are disputable issues because the same concentration of THC has different effect for each person. There is no exact evidence of cannabis use causes bad driving habit. So that, more data are needed to deliver a conclusion accurately. But, Wang' idea of user-friendly system is a promise further of technology. "if it can be analyzed quickly and with known accuracy, and if that measurement can be correlated well with actual impairment, then you've got something quite useful.", the expert says.
