I have to do an essay on how the archetype of a Journey in search of knowledge be applied to huck finn.

We can talk about how the archetype can be applied to:

-an image
-a theme
-a symbol
-an idea
-a character
-a plot pattern

This essay needs to be 6-8 paragraphs in length. I'm going to do an intro, 4 body and a conclusion = 6 paragraphs.

I'm probably going to do:

body 1 - Widow/Mrs Watson:

this paragraph will show how they instill the "normal" intellectual and moral values into huck:

-pt 1: huck learns to read/write
-pt 2: huck learns to do math
-pt 3: huck learns religion (at least they try to teach him)

body 2 - duke + king

this will show how huck realizes society is greedy/corrupt and that he must act if there is a problem:

-pt1: duke and king rip off the church service
-pt2: duke and king sell jim
-pt3: huck realizes that he should have acted when he realized they were frauds.

body 3: Jim

-pt 1,2,3: ????? I need help finding 3 points showing what knowledge Huck gains from being around Jim.

body 4: ??? (pap?):

-I need another character. If i do pap, i need help finding 3 points showing what knowledge Huck gains from being around pap.

I'm terrible at english. I am trying, but am getting extremely frustrated w/ this essay (math + science guy). My teacher's no help. I've tried sparknotes, but need some extra help. I don't want anyone to write my essay for me, just help me find points and ideas on how to prove them (need 3 pts and quotes per paragraph). Please help, I'm very desperate. This is due next week (21'st).

Excellent! Think about it this way: the essay is a collection of 4 ideas, and you put the ideas in a basket. (The intro and conclusion are the basket.) This is useful, because you can just write one paragraph at a time. Just start by writing that paragraph about Mrs. Watson.

Just take that first step. Soon, you will have the 4 paragraphs, and you can frame them (i.e. put them in the basket) by writing an intro and conclusion BASED on those 4 ideas. And you may be a math/science guy, but you write very well... excellent use of commas, excellent clarity.

Try this:
Step one- write a sentence about an example pertaining to Mrs. Watson.
Step two- write another sentence after that first sentence... one that explains what this has to do with the quest for knowledge.
Step three- go back and write a PARAGRAPH TOPIC SENTENCE in front of the sentence you wrote for step one. (i.e. give the main idea of the paragraph).

Step four- write a conclusion sentence for the paragraph.

The idea is to just start with a simple sentence about something that happens in the story. You can choose almost anything! Every detail of the story is related to the main themes, so... you really just need to take the first step.

This essay consists of only 4 ideas... 4 paragraph topic sentences.

Write the intro and conclusion last.

I hope that helps!!!
