FAMU College Entrance Essay about myself and my future contribution to the school community

Hello, i would just like some tips on how to start my essay and some examples of strong transitions.
Prompt: What qualities or unique characteristics do you possess that would allow you to contribute to the university community?

Hmm, maybe you should try to link one of your strong attributes to an interesting experience? Think about why the university should 'invest' in you as a potential student. How you can contribute to the university's diversity? Instead of writing about racial, gender or ethnic diversity, why not discuss a special interest in a specific area (the arts/sports/etc) that differs from the norm at the school. That way, maybe you'll get to start a new club at the school and hone your leadership skills as well.

I agree with Ishikawa, think of your experiences in the past and get some information about the University community. How the two of them combine together? Will you find yourself being part of a club?

Lets say you just finished high school, and in high school you were one of the students who was organizing events to bring people together. Will you try to do that also at the university?

From my personal experience, apart from the education you get at a university , you also make friendships that may last for life. The network you create during your studies may become really important when you start working. Universities know the importance of networking, that's why they want their students to exchange knowledge and information between them.

Strong transitions utilize the first sentence of one paragraph and the last sentence of another to help the paper flow smoothly. They often use the same language (at least one word that is similar or the same) to connect the two main ideas of the paragraphs.

Colleges like to here about something that makes you human. They can see your accomplishments and all that on the rest of your application. For the essay you want to show them something that makes you uniquely you. I was advised to write about a hard time that I overcame, and talk about the main characteristic that helped you through that time. Colleges want to see that you are a person that can over come difficulties as well as perform well in school.

I wouldn't write about race unless you were a direct victim of racial discrimination - it is a very common topic to pick and I think (and many professors that helped me write my essay think as well) that it is overdone. Again, if you were a victim of some sort of hate crime or a teacher treated you poorly or something then by all means, tell your story.
