So far we've looked at different forms of poetry and different methods of criticism. The whole class is dedicated to taking a poem and analyzing its form and messages.
We've studied essays such as:
Criticism Inc. by John Crowe Ransom
The Well Wrought Urn, Heresy of Paraphrase
And Preface to the Lyrical Ballads by Wiliam Wordsworth
We've read poems by Shakespeare, John Milton, and John Keats.
We've discussed ideas such as humanism, dignity, Enlightenment, and countryside vs. city. We've also thought about things like, "what is this poet worried about?"
I'm just wondering if anyone has an interesting idea for a 2000 word essay. I have a few options but I would like to hear some other thoughts.
Thank you!
