Hi! I was just confused on how to write a thesis for a person especially a famous author in British Lit. The teacher requested that the paper relate the author to British Lit in some form so I was thinking of writing why i think he was a spectacular writer as well as the story of his life and career. This is what I had as a thesis "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was one of the most brilliant mystery writers to make use of his pen." However I don't feel like this is adequate. Any advice would be extremely helpful!! Thanks!
Thesis for Research paper on a author (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle);Need advice!
Actually the thesis I was thinking of using was as follows: "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was very important to British literature being one of the most ambitious, prominent, brilliant men to make use of his pen and write."
Sherlock Holmes is renowned for being super-rational. Yet his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, claimed to speak with the spirits of the dead.
In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle classic detective story, "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" Sherlock Holmes proves himself a clever and memorable detective. Holmes uses his fantastic powers of observation to solve the crime and remain unforgettable to his readers. Upon meeting Helen Stoner, Holmes immediately notices she has come in by train. While she has not told him this information, his powers of observation help him deduce this fact. When she asks him how he knows, he notes, I observe the second half of a return ticket in the palm of your left glove" (Conan Doyle 2). Holmes ability to observe and analyze clues far outweighs other characters and detectives. Conan Doyle's detective has remained a popular character for over a century because of his superior powers of observation and admirable deductive abilities to solve crimes.
you can choose... hope i was helpful and am likeable... :)

will you write this one out or make changes? or you need more help?
I was going to edit my thesis using some of the information u gave. But the paper is not all on Sherlock in fact the vast majority of it is Sir Doyle and his life and works and impact on British literature. Sherlock is just a small portion compared to the entire paper.
So this is your thesis: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was very important to British literature being one of the most ambitious, prominent, brilliant men to make use of his pen and write.
Well then, you need to provide a lot of examples of Doyle being ambitious, prominent, and brilliant, particularly in the literature department. Politics, if relating to his writing, can count. But actions outside of writing won't. One example for each won't be enough.
Also, is Doyle really ambitious? He was the one that killed off Sherlock, and he only revived him because of public outcry. Was he brilliant? He believed in Spiritualism (nothing wrong with that) but then he also believed that Houdini had supernatural powers. And Doyle refused to believe Houdini that his magic tricks were just that, tricks.
Of course, I'm not saying that Doyle wasn't anything you said he was. I'm just pointing out some counter-claims to your thesis.
Anyhow, good luck with your essay.

So can anyone suggest any characteristic of Doyle and or his writing that could relate him to being an impact on British Literature? I'm still slightly confused on what to write my thesis on. Any Advice on the paper would be great. It needs to be 7-12 pages but having a hard time concluding as well as making the intro. Any help would be nice!
