Hey guys, I 'm desperately trying to find stuff to write for my RE literature review on Written Exams Should be abolished, but i don't know where to start!!! I would appreciate comments and suggestions from all of you!! Thx
Written Exams Should Be Abolished
Maybe you can start with the bad effects of written exams:
-pressure
-stress
-loss of confidence and self esteem if you are not able to score
-it does not test the intelligence of students but their ability in rote (mugging up) learning (often)
-exam pressure has led to many cases of suicide etc.
i cant think of anything else right now. Hope this helps though!

May be you would better to chose two main reasons that you think are the most important and place in two separate paragraphes. Then insert one contrary idea as no idea is absolute.
I think written exams put too much pressure on Students. I have just heard that a couple of students in cornell committed suicide. Pressure and stress can lead to very scary things...
You'll have trouble arguing that all written exams should be abolished. You should argue that high stakes testing should be abolished. that is what educators are talking about these days.
High stakes testing causes stress, which impairs learning and diminishes importance. Also, the testing methods are imperfect. They even are said to have cultural bias that causes achievement gaps from one ethnicity to another.
Search your database for these terms:
test score gap
achievement gap
"high stakes" assessment
"cultural bias" "high stakes assessment"
And you should especially search for:
authentic assessment
performance based assessment

1,written exams can not perfectly set to reflect students' understanding
2, written exams call too much attention on scores rather than other aspects of a student.
