i dont want a research based masters. I am looking for a course based masters.
Here is my SOP.
My expedition for gaining knowledge about computers got a kick start from my interest and curiosity in computer games back in my school. I did not just enjoy playing computer games but also was keen in knowing how things actually worked so as to amaze me with a few pushes of keyboard buttons and mouse clicks. I wondered how my character would jump when I hit space bar. That was the time when I decided to enter deep in the world of computers. It was tough time getting an admission in high school with a vocational subject of computer science but once I was in- it was bliss.
I carried my high school interests in computer gaming into engineering. In the third semester of my engineering I started participating in National Level Paper presentation competitions. The first paper I presented was on Artificial Intelligence and its applications in computer games. That day I bagged the second prize and also realized that I had good presentation skills. I decided to improve my skills and the quest began - By my 7th semester I had nine Paper Presentation prizes and the biggest among them was the one held at International Institute of Information Technology that was held in Pune-India. That event was sponsored by EMC 2 for storage technology day, where I was awarded first prize. My interests wandered through all the fields from ethical hacking, computer programming and from Graphics multimedia to networking and I participated in all the events I possibly could - Ethical Hacking workshop, Seminars, C-quiz etc.
During my engineering I realized the wideness of this field and since I was always ready to learn latest emerging technologies I kept on looking for something that was new in the market for my final year project. After some research I found Google's android operating system to be fascinating. I started studying about android programming and then decided to develop an application for the same. All through my high school and engineering I noticed that almost every technology uses Database. This was one subject that always pulled all my attention and curiosity. Even the application that I developed in my final year "Android based server monitoring system" used database. It had a database technology slightly different from others. It used SQLite3 for retrieval. Every organization has a database. The whole world is made up of information and, database is where it is stored. This thought was so much fascinating that I decided to develop a career in database systems and data mining.
In leisure time during engineering I had started designing websites using apache, PHP and MySQL. It was exhilarating to learn how information retrieval from a database occurs when a user executes a query by clicking a link or button on a website. To make it more exciting I started a free - lance web development company of my own named Weborn technologies to develop more websites and improve my skills and knowledge on database systems. The first website I developed was for my college and I was appreciated for my efforts by the college faculty.
After completing my engineering I started my job search in the same field so that I could get some real time work experience. In August 2011 I joined Cognizant Technology Solutions - a US based Multinational Information technology service Industry as a Systems Engineer in 'Information technology infrastructure support - ITIS'. Our team worked for a client who was a pharmaceuticals company and had data centers in New Jersey. In this period I got hands on experience on optimizing database and performance tuning. I got the opportunity to have real time work experience on Data Mining and OLAP.
The next milestone that I have setup in my career is to pursue a Master's degree in Computing Science. I want to get to the zenith of this field, especially, database technology. Database technology is the heart of all the applications that use information. Its future lies in cloud databases as the technology today is increasingly adopting cloud computing. I want to explore how well can database technology be merged with other technologies in the field of computing science so as to bring about a new revolution in coming generations.
I have done considerable research about the faculty of computing science at XX University and found that XX has a very strong team of professors and teaching staff who have done extensive research in the field of my interest and can help me achieve my career goals as well as sharpen my skills. The computing science program at your university covers a variety of topics that are designed to give me an insight in the world of academic and industrial computing research. I am sure that my presence at XX and my desire to gain knowledge from the faculty at XX will set up the right platform that is required for my transition towards graduation.
