STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Raashi Pachisia
Ever since I held a crayon in my hand, I knew I loved to design.
My creative side burgeoned throughout my school years. I would get involved in every activity that gave me the opportunity to explore my creative skills. Not only did I find my adrenaline pumping when I traveled across the country to design outfits for inter-school fashion competitions or sat at home and brainstormed on design concepts for my room, but I also found much success in these activities.
My major accomplishments of high school were to serve as the School Captain for 3 years; be elected as the Editor-in-Chief of my School Newsletter, Spark; and also to be chosen as a Junior Editor for a national daily, The Times of India. With these experiences, I have learned to take up responsibilities, work as a team member and a leader.
It was my mother, who noticed the creative trait in me, and pushed me to apply for India's premier institute- National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). I ranked 107 at an all India level in my entrance exam, which is when I realized that not only do I enjoy designing, but I was also good at it.
Once I took up Interior Products and Lifestyle Accessories at NIFT, I realized my passion for the field and the wonders of designing excited me. I was amazed to learn how designs shape and mold the world in which we live our daily lives; how mundane objects can be transformed into objects of great beauty, while preserving the functional usefulness; how life is breathed into spaces with these objects, and the way a space complements the latter.
At NIFT, not only have my creative skills been polished, I have learned to work under pressure and multi-task. I have not only been encouraged to think out of the box, but also have learned the Science and Management of Design.
Since 2008 till present I have been working as a freelance Graphic Designer for a U.S based dance company, Bollywood Dance Mania, New York, Rochester. I have also undergone industrial training at Vaibhav Gems Ltd, Gemstone and Jewellery Export house for 2 months and designed fine jewellery for US and UK markets. I am currently undergoing my Graduation Project with Aamir and Hameeda, extremely reputed Interior Designers, currently on Forbes India top 7 Interior Designers.
As I have a background in interior products, I intend to study Interior Design to have a well-rounded knowledge on the field. I think a combination of both would be a dynamic one.
I have chosen to study in the UK because it offers a world-class, multicultural environment. United Kingdom is an ideal setting for design-related studies, as the design field is highly developed and reputable in the UK, and such a setting will not only allow me to gain exposure, but will give me an opportunity to meet various people from different parts of the world with different cultures. It will give me a chance to broaden my spectrum. I see myself as an entrepreneur in the future, and studying in the UK will allow me to develop into a well-rounded person capable of working as one.
I will not only gain, but as an Indian, with a rich cultural background I have a lot to offer as a designer and an individual.
I would like to study at ________"university name"_________ as I believe it will help me grow as a designer and as a person.
