I would like to pursue an MBA at Anderson School of management in order to gain skills in Strategy and Finance an apply them to be a career enhancer.
I joined my current job in October 2007 as a temp. I was communicated that this position has no chance to be converted to permanent. I took my chances as I liked what I was doing. My immediate boss was impressed with my work and took extra effort to provide me opportunities to interact with senior leadership and helped me to make my own place in the company. I was hired full time after 5 months, and since then I am growing in my role, be it in terms of work or responsibility or in terms of taking leadership. In 3.5 years I acquired broad knowledge of the business and made myself more valuable for the company. February this year, I was promoted to senior role and also enrolled for leadership and management program within the company. I have a mentor in the company who is helping me to develop leadership and management skills.
My responsibilities includes supporting senior leaders and decision makers in my company. Mainly I am involved with two kinds of work. One is to analyze Statistical and Financial data, find any gaps and connect them as storyboard for senior management. Decision makers use this information and derive inference from this and finally make a decision. This kind of work also involves analysis based on many hypothetical situations.
The other kind of work I do is to show the after effect of some decision already made. More like tracking the outcome and comparing it to what was expected from this.
There is one piece I am not involved with in this whole process, and that is actually making the decision.
I am a doer and I want to move to a role where I am making decisions or participating in decision making.
Strategic decision makers (AVPs and above) are key to the company growth and provide direction. A broad knowledge of business product, historical data, current market dynamics and management skills in analyzing information is necessary for decision makers. I would like to synthesize knowledge and experience from my progressive career and build upon it with an Anderson MBA so as to eventually become a Strategic decision maker.
Courses like 'Competitive Strategy and Business Policy', 'Economics of Decision',' Managerial Decision Making' and 'Leadership and Ethics' will help me acquire knowledge, skills and tools that will make me a perfect fit to transition in decision making role. My early education by my father in decision making has given me a very strong foundation which will enable me to quickly grasp enhanced concepts of this subject. I am looking forward to gain knowledge of finance, strategy and entrepreneurship at Anderson. Entrepreneurship looks like an odd one in this combination, but I believe this skill is needed in decision making role as it will enable me assemble resources including innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic services.
My education and work experience along with MBA from Anderson school of management will help me to get a senior level strategic decision making position in 3-5 years. In long term, I am preparing myself to lead a significant product line/ division. MBA from Anderson school of management is one very significant part of my whole plan.
