Hello Experts,
I am going to apply shortly to the MS program in MIS offered by Metropolitan State University in Minnesota. I have written my goals essay for the same and I request the members of the forum to please review it and provide me your valuable feedback. Please find below my essay:
Name: Anupama Singhal.
Course: Masters of Management Information Systems (MMIS).
After a bachelors and a master's degree in arts and about two years of a work experience in the fashion and apparel industry I want to challenge myself and earn a degree in IT. I want to make a career in information technology. A lot of people in the country I come from would find it unusual. Perhaps it has something to do with my love for computers and technology which started when my father gifted me a laptop when I was 14. I instantly fell in love with my laptop and used to spend hours playing games on it. It was an addiction back then and even today.
I have had two passions when I was a kid, one was for the arts and the other was for technology. It was my creativity and passion for the arts which led me to pursue a master's degree in arts from the UK, and now I think it's the time that I pursue my passion for technology. The kind of determination I have shown to pursue and successfully complete my master's course in the arts gives me the confidence that I can successfully take this challenge.
Since my school days I have been comfortable with computers and technology. Even though in my high school I had arts as a major I chose informatics as my elective which involved DBMS language FoxPro, programming languages C and HTML and object oriented language C++. I liked informatics and I performed well in the subject. Apart from core IT concepts, I am interested in ERP systems like SAP.I have read about it and I am amazed with the kind of things this software can do and the efficiency with which it enables the business to run. I want to utilize my domain experience in fashion, apparel and sales and merge it with relevant modules in SAP to strengthen my technical skills as a business analyst. I don't want to be just a professional who know SAP, rather I want to be an analyst who understands the complete IT infrastructure of a company, which is where this MMIS program will help me.
During my bachelors, I was always inclined towards using latest design software available at that time. I always believed technology can provide us maximum precision with consistency at the minimum cost. I have been a very data driven person. I want to take the next step in the same direction and acquire technical expertise by combining my data analysis skills with technology so that I could provide smart business solutions to my future employer and add value to their business.
I got married in 2012 and I quit my job, came to US and joined my husband. My dream to pursue my passion in technology came along with me. I always knew the quality of education in the United States is one of the best in the world, and that aspect itself increased my interest manifolds. I started searching for good courses offered in information technology by reputed universities and there I came across the MMIS program offered by Metropolitan State University.
I went through the description of each course and instantly felt connected with the program. I made several calls to the University for inquiring more about the course and the admission process and even attended a session on the MMIS program by Dr. David Bouchard. After attending the session I was convinced this course is meant for me.
I am hopeful that I will get the opportunity to pursue my passion and execute my plan and the vision I have for my career and emerge as a sound professional who is ready to contribute to the success of the business and the society as a whole.
