Why you wish to selected field
1) Sales
Sales was not my first priority when I applied to the internship program. However, I changed my mind after I finished reading the book, "Success" by Spencer Johnson. This book fundamentally defines the real meaning of "sales" by using story-telling skills. "Success" gave me a vivid inspiration, and strongly influenced me to apply to the sales field in this program.
From my personal perspective, the sales field requires specific skills, such as social networking, active participation, and etc. I had limited social skills and had not been a very active person until I went to study abroad. During my high school career, I endured hardships due to my introspective character and lack of English communication skills. Luckily, I received a great opportunity from my school to grow in character and improve my language skills, as a Counselor's Assistant. I accepted the school's proposal and worked at the school counseling office for a semester. During the semester, I had to sell myself in my role as Counselor's Assistant to counselors and other school staff to maximize my potential value in the position, in keeping with what Spencer Johnson had explained in his book.
Consequently, my English skills improved rapidly at that time, and then I successfully finished my exchange student career. With my previous experience and inspiration from the book, I would love to further build my sales communications skills and continue my personal growth in the business field. I feel strongly that obtaining the great opportunity your program has to offer will best allow me to accomplish these goals.
2) Operations
The operations field is a very interesting field among the five fields proposed by Korea University. Even though, my concentration has been in economics, I have always been interested in developing skills that will allow me to apply both the knowledge from the operations field and the economics field to generate synergy effect after I graduate from university. Generally it is often thought that the operations field is mainly applicable in management studies. However, in my opinion, the business operation skill is not only applicable to the management field but also to various industrial and business fields in real world situations.
When I was in seventh grade, I was a president of my homeroom class. At that time, I never expected to be elected to the position. It was a first time I deeply participated in a leadership role, so I felt a great deal of pressure to perform well in the position from my homeroom teachers and other classmates. The first quarter of seventh grade was a demanding period for me. After the first quarter, I was fully trained in my leadership position, with the difficulties of the learning phase behind me. As a result of my excellent peformance as a leader, I was elected vice president two times after the seventh grade.
Using my skills from my leadership experiences, I eagerly wish to intern in the operations world to gain experience and learn the working-level area. It is my hope to gain enough insight and research to further apply this knowledge when I return to college. This internship is best way for me to learn the operations field, as I am not a management major. I am sure my research to combine technology with Economics and Operations will prove enlightening and beneficial. This internship would provide a first step to increasing my operations skills and allow me to apply them in both real world situations and greatly benefit my university studies.
(2) What experience you wish to obtain
From this unique internship program, I would like to wish to gain valuable experience during my college career. When I was a high school student, my hazy dream was to intern from a company as my father had done. I was strongly affected from my father's life in home and outside. Although, he failed to become a judge after he graduated from the university with a law major, but he did his best in his position, where he served for twenty years in the Hyundai Heavy Industries. Although, my father does not want me to follow in his path, I desired to achieve at least the level of success and valuable contribution in an occupation like my father has. This valuable internship would come as a crucial turning point in my college year, greatly expanding my career options after I graduate from college. If I get this fabulous opportunity to my life, I wish to gain real-world experience from the company.
This experience is significantly relevant because the actual task will be adding heavier responsibilities than studying in school does theoretically. Even little mistakes have significant consequences in the real industrial field, because they can directly affect the company's profit, image and even morale. I desire to work at this level of accountability by serving in an internship.
Also, I wish to build a social network during my internship period. Although, the internship period is only a month, but I feel confident I can build a useful social network with coworkers in the company and the industry. A financial value cannot be set on this networking as it will offer me a means to connect my experiences directly to Korea and help further the networking there after I graduate from college.
Lastly, I also desire to define my post graduate plans and choices through the insight gained during my internship. It is my hope that by applying my skills and studies with the internship experience I will achieve a more focused view of the best career fit for my knowledge and skills. Even though, each company may have utterly different business policies and management practices, I am confident the internship will assist me to grasp a company's environment, and assist me in making the wisest career selection after I complete my bachelor's degree.
