Tell us about a significant situation where you were at the horns of ethical dilemma. Describe the situation, the outcomes and how it molded you into the person you are today.
The dilemma started when we were asked to submit our final year project report-my project supervisor had told me that "without result", I can't submit my project report. I was working on the "Design of Electrocardiogram Circuit and Automatic Analysis of ECG Signals", the software part, which handles the analysis was 90% done but the hardware part, which is the ECG circuit was not giving the desired output signal. 24 hours to submit, I worked tirelessly to make the circuit work but all effort proved futile.
As the time of submission draws nigh, I was faced with the decision to take a picture of me using the circuit with manipulated output signal showing on the oscilloscope to belie that the circuit worked or continue testing the circuit. Certainly, the former will accomplish the mission but it would ruin my self-integrity thus, I decided to continue troubleshooting until I found the "odd pattern" in the circuit just an hour to submit. Deftly, I made the necessary correction, recorded the result, also had to take the prototype to my supervisor's office to validate. Immediately, I added the result, pictures, analysis and wrote final conclusion to my project report. Before submitting, I had my supervisor cross-check the report, fortunately, he was satisfied with the software, hardware prototype and the project report.
I was tested, I remained loyal to myself not to jeopardize my self-integrity and that of my alma-mater. A great artist said, "if we give our brain as much attention we give to our hair, there is nothing impossible we can't achieve", the dilemma taught me to trust my instinct and always do what is right, no matter the outcome. My project defense was amazing and was given a standing ovation from my colleagues as well as lecturers in the room.
