I need all the feedback I can get on my SOP used as a prerequisite for admission into a Phd program in International Development. I had to make clear intention on thesis theme (Post-Disaster Reconstruction) as the program itself reiterate significance of proposed research, they even think it's value is equal to value of student's academic history! which is in my case not my strength as my BA was in IT and my MA is in Business Administration and although multidisciplinary background is vital as they said i still think my background is way to far from Development which could only be fixed by strong application letters and career history which is relevant luckily!
My SOP draft goes like this:
Statement of Purpose
Grand ambitious Soul and affinity with serving others on local and Global scale brought me here.
The age of 7 marked the start of my intellectual journey when I read my first book on history at the age of 11, I read Socrates without losing focus on History as the greatest teacher of all sciences and the gate to political theory, sociology, Military strategies and above all analysis. Academic choice was a surprise to all who knew me as I chose Computer Engineering as a new conquest and I was always and still I am up to new conquests. Business Administration completed all that was missing and formulated what I already knew and what I had to know in a more articulated fashion. It became quite easier blending in and working with teams of different backgrounds while getting their consent and approval in return for demonstrating deep understanding of multiple backgrounds especially in a Development oriented environment. Although I consider myself of exceptional abilities I think of upcoming challenges as overwhelming and consequently frightening unless otherwise I prepare well and plan to improve my capacity to tackle the issue of Post-War reconstruction process that is about to take place in the near future, what makes matters more challenging is the lack of enough expertise on national level as most of those around me are not Development Scholars.
I have a dream joining a team of high caliber scholars in International Development and hold a Phd grade so I could get back home to employ and grow my knowledge then document the reconstruction process and disseminate it to world in an applicable practical manner to the extent of becoming a reference myself in Post-Disaster Reconstruction theme. It is something I deserve as I came a long painful way to be here and I am certainly of non mediocre type, I've done enough good in my past but feel I've yet to realize my full potential which will not be easy but I was born to face challenges and prevailed so far.
It is far from perfect on all levels, and I need all help i can get... please
