HI all.

I have been struggling writing a statement of purpose for my PhD admissions.
Have done with one. i feel it should be more impressive , concise and interesting.

"The process of scientific discovery is, in effect, a continual flight from wonder."
-Albert Einstein.

Who am I until now?
Challenges have always motivated me to bring the best out of myself and strive to achieve the
greatest. I was cultured in a family that has great regard for education and human values. Sincerity
and hard work are the virtues that were inculcated naturally in my character. Since my childhood I was
always enchanted by the enigma of life in and around, and the desire to know more, the same drove
me towards quenching my thirst of knowledge about the scientific world especially, biological science.
The spirit of growth has been the cornerstone, which has enabled me to dramatically outgrow and reach the
pinnacle of research experience, from a total ignorance to the real bliss of science at the molecular level.

What made me pursue Genetics?
I never did live in the virtual world; I have always seen pain in the life of people who were challenged
humanly. My very first experience happened to be with a cousin of mine who has Down syndrome.
The real curiosity to read life, unveil and understand the science behind inheritance, ancestry and
disorder is what made me take up Genetics as my core subject during my graduation. This introduced
me to the spastic society and genetic counselling, where I developed interest towards the human and
the congenital abnormalities and development disorders.
"Science without humanity is root of violence"- (M.K.Gandhi). Being humane, the agony of people
from a Genetic standpoint agitates me to explore the mystery behind. This is the only aspect which
nudged me to specialize in Medical Genetics during the tenure of my Master's around Biomedical
Genetics.
An accidental encounter with the transgender community pushed me into unraveling the mystery
behind their abnormality. My postgraduate internship program (2007), happened to be a bridgehead
for my research into the 'Disorders of sexual development', which was an outcome of my aspiration
towards the study of Ambiguous genitalia and infertility.
I got an opportunity to work in Dr.Raman's lab in, The Center for Genetic Disorders at Banaras Hindu
University, Varansi. That is where I got an opportunity to handle the patients myself, karyotype and
study the molecular basis of the Disorders of Sexual Development and infertility and learnt genetic
counseling as well. This conferred me with sheer satisfaction for being a budding genetic counsellor
and a healer.

Residues I would like to make and take in future -
I have learnt that in science and life it doesn't hurt to have a healthy sense of humour. My objective in
applying for the Doctorate program is to treat myself with the bliss of research indeed to search for the
secrecy behind. It's the human tendency to raise questions for their sufferings. My experiences have
moulded me in to a hardworking and what I would call an "unexcitable" person. My future goals
include establishing a career in research and educating people about science, pattern of inheritance
and deal with the mystery behind their challenges, be it physically or mentally, with genetic
counselling as a channel. Scientific research has its origin in a very fundamental human character -
curiosity! It is very important though, to ask the right question. I am here with scores of 'WHY's' for
which I feel that the doctoral program could be the platform to acquire the answers.
With all hopes high, I sign off here.
