hi guys,
I am currently doing my masters in computational mechanics and am applying for a Phd position. The application requires a personal statement and an academic statement.

Please go through my personal statement and suggest any modifications. It would be a great help. THANKS.

PERSONAL STATEMENT.

If I recollect right from my childhood it was a matter of pride for my family that I was bright child and was good in academics.Initially, the drive was to please parents and family however, self realization dawned as I was approaching school final. I realized that I had this inherent curiosity to understand the basis for things that happen, that are, that might be, or that were. I used to be and am fascinated by numbers with trigonometry, permutations and calculus being my favorite subjects. This fascination for mathematics and physics coupled with my computer skills made me take up engineering.

After high school I was offered to pursue a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering at the reputed ----------. This I think was the turning point in my career. They say engineers are for engineering solutions and rightly this institute has oriented me to think in such a way. I know now that the hours that I spent in the workshop, in the classes, in the CAD lab, or even on stage during the cultural fests , everything has given a unique colur to my personality.

At the end of my bachelors it was time for campus placements. I too sat for placements and managed to secure two jobs. One of them was as a field engineer in a power plant and the other as a production engineer. After a lot of introspection, I realized that even though I had laid down the foundations of engineering the building was yet to be built, and I knew that if I take up a job the building would never be built.

During my undergraduate studies, I had taken courses in FEM and ANSYS software. I had, at that point the oppurtunity to learn from Dr. ------, who also guided me during my thesis. I was fascinated by the knowledge he had in this field. During this time I also had the oppurtunity to attend one of the national level mechanical conferences held at my university. I had presented a seminar on ''reverse engineering of a pelton wheel''. This is when I actually got to know the amount of research that was going on in the field of computational mechanics. This inspired me to pursue a masters in this direction.

I was fortunate enough to get admitted for the graduate program in computational mechanics at the prestigious -------. Here I must confess that I had truly found my passion. Apart from strong academic orientation, I am also working as a research assistant at the university under Prof.------ and Prof.------- which has helped me understand the research that is going on and helped me better understand the subjects.

The future is for sustainability, smart materials, nano technology etc where the focus would be on better performance with smarter materials. Hence, engineers would be required to have multi disciplinary orientation for being futuristic solution providers. In this regard, a doctoral program would not only able to give further refinement in my approach towards problems and their quantification but also give me flavor of other related disciplines.

I guess you can improve this idea to be a more catchy one : )
Being a bright kid, especially in academics, I had always been my family's pride and I never had a heart to betray their confidence in me. So as a kid, I was primarily driven by the motive of pleasing my parents. However, as I grew older, I realized where my true passion lies.

.... don't be too descriptive; you do your bachelors after high school and it is obvious.
I did my bachelors in mechanical engineering at highly reputed uuuuuu. This was the turning point of my career.
