Personal Statement in finance

Initially,it was when I read a book called "Currency War "in my father's desk that I became interested in the power of money.Over time it became clear to me that the people who understand the monetary and banking system are capable of controll the greatest wealth in the world. Then I realize that understanding the decisions made by governments and the future of society could make a difference in the financial world.I want to be one of those people.

My overall GPA is ranked the upper 15% among about 218 students. I was ranked among the top 2 percent of students in Mangerial Accounting and top 5 percent in Finacial Management and International Settlement. My aptitude for mathematical calculations and logical reasoning allows me rapidly to acquire the core of finance theories.

To fulfill my learning goals and research interests, I hanker for pursuing the Financial Mangement,Marketing,Accounting information system, and Coporate accounting. These course has put me in close touch with a wide range of international standard such as IFRS and IAS and the core of forecasting decision. Among all courses I learned so far, I find the greatest fruition from learning Mangerial Accounting which give me insights on planning, decision-making, performance evaluation and control. I learnt various risk faced by banks and derivative securities where I obtained mathematical knowledge in pricing derivatives and constructing different strategies. Those modules instructed me to explore the beauty of finance industry and I intended to acquire the soundest knowledge from them.

I like the variety of courses on offer and the fact you can do a dissertation as part of the programme. For one thing, in this program, I especially want to take core modules such as Advanced Financial Reporting, Quantitative Methods ,escipecially in the Finance course you provide, which gain an great opportunity in learning the Corporate Finance, Portfolio Management and some Basic Valuation Concepts .Through these course,I wish to sit the June CFA Level I exam and gain this qualification.Furthermore, optional modules provided by your program like Advanced Coporate governance,Financial reporting for complex entity also attract me deeply. For another thing, learning subjects like Advanced mangagement accounting will contribute me progressed to senior positions in the accounting profession and industry, including investment banking ,fund management, insurance and the stock market. The opportunity to read articles written by Lancaster professors who helped shape accounting standards research and other topical subjects in finance, and the chance to then ask them questions in person, is what makes Lancaster a unique and stimulating place to study critical reading and thinking.

I have also taken inspiration from my intership in ZOONO(China), as an assistant of project mananger.Taking the opportunity of contacting the munfacturer ,my interpersonal skill has improved when I enquire directly with them. I got far more familiar with the Posting with Cleaning in the SAP system. These experiences, together with the knowledge and skills I acquired, are directly relevant and applicable to my current day-to-day work, the most significant of which is the ability to think and work independently.

.As the production of operation becomes increasingly complex,I realize the importance of handling skills in advanced mathemtics. For example, applying regression analysis to semi-variable cost decomposition and mastering the dependence between cost and outputThe job I did was tiny, but it make me more adapt at evaluating the practicality and reliability of theoretical theories by considering the influencing factors in the financial market more comprehensively. In order to gain some micro-economicin sights,I was eager to study further on grasping some finance background to broden my view on the the sum total of economic activity thus speeding up the realization of my future career objectives working as a consultant in a investment bank.

I appreciate you taking the time to consider my application and I hope that the information I have shared has demonstrated my academic ability, professional objectives and my enthusiasm to be an MSc student of Lancaster.

Yalin, This is a good personal statement. It just contains some information that will become redundant once you present it again in the SOP part of the application essays. I suggest that you remove the SOP parts from this essay to not only shorten the essay, but also create a more interesting presentation for the reviewer. You may want to consider polishing the essay using the following relevant paragraphs instead: 1,3,4,6. Then build a stronger concluding paragraph that does not end on a mere "thank you for reading my application" and instead says "I deserve to study at your university."

You can insert a paragraph that explains the growth of your interest in Finance based on your professional exposure. Connect that with the development of your interest in research which led to your higher academic goals. Don't go into too much detail though. The details should be in your SOP. The statement has the potential to be highly effective once you reformat the content. Polish the content by revising the information presented and you should be all set.
