STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Even today, I vividly remember my mother sending clothes for laundry, and when she receives , she would ask me to calculate the cost of laundry. This process would involve in knowing how many pants, shirts, blouses, sarees etc; and multiply the cost towards each of these units and compute the total cost. Week after week, I was performing this task for my mother. I used to note down the quanitities of each category and multiply with appropriate rates, and then add up the total. I was wondering, if there was a machine, where I would enter only the quantities of the items and instantly if the machine could give out the total. How wonderful and useful would be the machine. I was also wondering if this was something impossible.
Later, when I began to go for shopping, I used to write down the items to be bought, and the quantities, and after shopping, when I get back, my mother would enquire about rates of each items, and most of the time she would wonder what was the cost of a particular item last time we bought, or before that. Though she wrote these data behind wall calenders, many times the data would be missing. I was wondering, if we had a machine where we could enter the data of purchase each time, with all the necessary details such as date of purchase, quantity, price etc;, we would be having a very vital data for comparing as and when we need.
In the school, we were made to memorize the multiplication and addition tables in the classes. Though it was a good brain exercise, I was feeling the effort was not worth, as it was a repetitive and time consuming task. When I saw an electronic calculator for the first time in my life, I was amazed.. The calculator was appearing like a magic. It was giving out the products, and additions so quickly, I was beginning to jump with joy.
My fascination towards machines with intelligence was growing along with me and when I saw a personal computer in the school, and learnt about its features, I simply fell in love with it. All my dreams appears to be coming true. Yes, this machine could do the works which I was planning to apply. I was feeling extremely happy to do programme with BASIC language. My father had bought some books on BASIC, from which I began to apply the programmes, and seeing the outputs was fascinating. The outputs such as changing colours, producing musical notes, fascinating noises etc; was mesmerizing me.
From there on, I took lot of interest in computers. My father had bought a PC, and as I started using it my love towards computers was growing faster. Fixing problems in my PC, and many of my friends PC's was my biggest hobby. All my friends, would call me for their doubts in fixing the problems of their PC's whether it was a operating system problem, software or hardware problems. If I cannot solve the problems, I used to consult one of my neighbor who was a hardware engineer, and taking his suggestions, I used to repair the PC's of my friends. I could even assemble a PC on my own.
Later, when I was introduced to Internet, my joy was boundless. Downloading various softwares, installing them, testing them was my biggest joy. I wanted to become a computer science professional. But the fate was having its own ideas. When I was entering Undergraduate courses 4 years ago, there was a major recession in IT field. There was news, that many IT professionals who went abroad from India, were suffering from recession, their jobs being snatched, and were working as waiters in restaurants, and many of them who returned home were jobless. So many stories were circulating such as computer engineers committing suicides etc;. And my parents would not allow me to join computer science branch. I was put in Civil Engineering branch which they thought was an evergreen field. My dreams were shattered just like that! I was pursuing my course without my heart, but DETERMINED TO CHANGE MY CAREER AT ANY COST TO COMPUTER SCIENCE .
During my undergraduate period, I spent some time in learning C++, C#, and JAVA technologies, and I have attained some level of proficiency in these areas. I use computer applications as much as possible in all my activities, whether be it in my subject, or other co-curricular activities. I have used many softwares such as ADOBE, DREAMWEAVER etc; to make short films and won many prizes for best short film makers from various inter-college competitions.
I have done some projects using , " " to name a few of my achievements.
Although, maintaining good acedamic track, and pursuing my ambition in computer related activites, I took active part in various sports in the college. I have won several prizes for my athletic records. I was elected as the BEST ATHELETE in my School finals.
My goal is very clear: I want to become a computer professional and serve my country with my knowledge and skills. India is full of opportunities especially in the field of advanced computer applications areas in the coming years, and I intend to take full advantage of this fact and I want to be fully prepared to meet these challenge.
