Scholarship / I am much confident about my capacity and ability to develop the community and bring a good change [11]

Essay Choice B: According to Ronald Reagan, "The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things." Describe an instance where you had to be a leader in your community. What did you learn about yourself, your leadership style, and your capacity to create change?

It was the last winter in December 2015 when most of my classmates were enjoying the winter vacation, as a community worker of "Sadon Sarker Foundation" I went to the district "Shariatpur" along with some group of people to run 4 days 'clothes for education' program in the different places of the village named "Nawpara" where most of the people are poor and uneducated. The main purpose of this program was to educate people specially the adult and distribute warm cloths among them as the gift of their participation with us.During this program I was responsible for the co-ordination and provision of the program though I was confused about my leading capability. But through using my extrovert personality, managerial skill and previous experience I was able to figure out my leading capability for the first time.It wasn't an easy task to conduct this program because we were facing several problem such as time adjustment with the participants as most of them were farmer thus they can't attend during the day time and there was no electricity in the village so we were unable to run the program at night. Then I decided to teach the participants from 6 o'clock in the morning .It was very hard because of the cold season and some of my group mate were denying this decision but through my motivated words they were convinced.Another problem we faced, arranging the participants. I decided to use mike to announce the news of clothes, education and place rather than announcing the program name or details so that they feel more interested to attend. Finally this program has been successfully done with 120 participants in 3 different areas.

I have learned the true form of leadership capability from this program. I witnessed the way motivation for achieving something, an open mind to co-operate and help others and believing oneself develop the leadership capabilities. I have learned more about my ability and personality which has strengthened my confidence. I was able to figure out my motivations for working hard, skills and adaptation capability which is very significant for a leader. I also realized that leaders not always consistently emerge based on their strengths it also can and should be situational, depending on the needs of the team.

Leadership style is very diverse form. From the experience of the program and previous experience I will identify my leadership style both as an authoritative and an affiliative. But still I need to build up other leadership styles for more long-term leadership success with every circumstances because the great leaders choose their leadership style with a calculated analysis of the matter at hand, the end oal and the best tool for certain job.

I am much confident about my capacity and ability to develop the community and bring a change within it. My community is facing many problems which still need to solve. My first focus on the education of children and eradicating chronic poverty and secondly ensuring the empowerment of women.I have the confident and believe which is the key to bring a change in the community. My leadership ability which I have used before will help me to build up the changing structure though I want to develop my leadership skill more. I have more than two years' experience working in communities, organizations and institutions with multi-cultural communities, this experience is my commodity to serve the community more and bring the change. My adaptation capability within different circumstances one my major strength, which is very important to work hard.

In a conclusion I would say the great leaders never born great, they grow great and Global UGRAD will be my steps to grow great.

Thanks in advance. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Here i came up the revised version. I tried to concentrate on your points. Maybe its not good enough , because i feel like my head is empty now. Anyway looking forward for your suggestion from this last edit. Thanks Mary.

It was the last winter in December 2015 when most of my classmates ...

... I was responsible for the co-ordination and provision of the program. It was a tough task to conduct this. Adjusting time with the participants was the first barrier as most of them were farmer ...

... From this instance I have developed myself and made my mind more open to interact and build up the more ability to adapt situation. I have showed some excellence like solving the instant problem, working together, giving preference to everyone's decision moreover hard work for achieving the goal in my second work with this organization and most of these excellence was absent in my first work.So during the second work even my instinct was another part of my team's motivation to achieve the goal. Coping up with every situation, believing myself and working hard to motivate others is my strength to lead others. ...

Undergraduate / "How did you do that?", 'I love mathematics' - MIT first two short essays [4]

Though am not an expart i would love to suggest something for your 2nd essay.
Your essay is pretty good actually. Specially I can see your efforts.you almost pointed everything within this word limit which is really great job but as it's limited with only 100 words. You might avoid the sentence like " I love mathematics" . Because all other applicant will say the same even it's usual that u love this subject , otherwise you wouldn't have apply for it. Tell something passionate about which the reader expact to see in you. Like you can say what makes you love this subject. Sentence like "my whole life....." Kinda illogical because during your childhood you might know nothing about it. You can replace this sentence with something unique statement which will make you different from other applicants.

Answer:

challenges and problems in Bangladesh

As a citizen from a developing country, I witnessed lots of challenges and problems of my community while working for this community and its people. I have worked with several foundations and organizations to help or contribute to the society directly and I have seen how people are deprived of human rights, how they are lacking of basic needs and how they are suffering poverty. By those time as a youth of this county I committed to bring a change in my local community and in the nation as a whole. But as am a student I can't just change the base structure and supper structure but my contribution will significantly help the development of my local or regional society. I figured out some mainstreaming challenges of my society and set my goal to stand up against it.

In the regional areas of Bangladesh people are illiterate, not even aware about the human rights thus deprived of it, in some case even they don't have access to entitled food for them. I discovered this circumstances of my county while working with "Sadon Sarker Foundation". We usually go to some rural places of Bangladesh and teach them some basic lessons e.g. (Family planning, human rights awareness etc.) and as the incentive of their participation we deliver some cloths or money among them. The hardest part is to see, the way they are rushing toward us for this cloths or money because they are not even able to buy a blanket. When a youth see this kind of condition of his or her county, there is no other option for him or her without contributing to the development to bring the change.

Children are significantly deprived of their rights in Bangladesh. Children are very significant and bride future for a county. But when they are lacking of proper food, education, shelter it seems like the county doesn't have any future at all. This realization drives me to focus on ensuring the children rights of our county. For that I start working with "Youth against hunger" and "Aronne full" and experienced that even in the capital city children are not having proper education and suffering from malnutrition. The statistics of "Youth against hunger" shows that the number of street children in Dhaka city is increasing day by day. Another common circumstances of my county is "child labour" which I have seen both in urban and rural areas of Bangladesh. Going through all this daily suffering and misery of children, I feel like I really need to fight for children rights because children are assents and future of a nation. Unless we ensure their rights, a generation without backbone will be created. Government already took several steps to ensure children rights but without youth like us and without our collaboration it's not possible.

Women are major part of a society because social structure build up with the contribution of both men and women. While working as a research fellow for a research on gender stereo types of Bangladesh, I found women especially rural women are just as a piece of breathing creature and in some point they are treated like an animal. In Bangladesh most of the women aren't aware about their rights. Women subordination is high because of patriarchal society. In city the scenario is changing a bit but not significantly. While collecting the data I had the opportunity to talk with rural women directly about their circumstances. Women are deprived of education, self-esteem, awareness, accessing own decision and assets etc. Moreover the patriarchal tradition creating the subordination situation for women. This scenario of my county made me concern about women's right and their empowerment because human equality and human rights are the key for the sustainable development of the society

For the development of a nation only its authority or government can't be liable. I believe every citizen especially the youth has the capacity to contribute for the development of a nation. For a youth contributing to the social development is must. Youth has the capacity to be a change maker and bringing change within the society, change is development. The challenges and problems of my community or my overall nation has promoted and motivated me to become a committed contributor for the development of my society and bringing change.

Writing Feedback / SOLUTIONS ON CLIMATE CHANGE [5]

I liked it. It contains several information which is very good actually. But the thing is that , you could make it more precise. Even in every part you could narrow down the topic into an idea. For an example:

"Climate change has become ..."

This is a very common or general idea, everyone will write it.so if you are specific enough that will be something unique.

Scholarship / 6th NIDA summber camp 2017 on "Sustainable Community Development" In Thailand. [3]

Write an essay of minimum-1000 words explaining "How Important of Sustainable Community Development"
here is my draft. its just 700 words, so feel free to add anything or suggest anything. Thanks in advance.

Sustainable Community Development importance

Before we start to discuss the significance of sustainable community development, we need to figure out what is meant by sustainable community development first. Sustainable community development is the organizing principle for meeting human development goals while at the same time sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem service upon which the economy and society depends. A sustainable community uses its resources as to meet current needs while ensuring that adequate resources are available for future generations. Sustainable community development is the ability to make development choices which respect the relationship between the three "E" - economy, ecology and equality. The base and universal significance of sustainable community development is that it seeks a better quality of life for all its residents while maintaining nature's ability to function over time by minimizing waste, preventing pollution and promoting consciousness. A concept emerged in the 80's as a solution to the problem of meeting the needs (social and economic) of the rapidly growing population of any resident while preserving the environment's ability to support it: Sustainable Community Development has its own set of invaluable importance. Apart from the self-evident importance i.e. meeting the social and economic needs whilst keeping the maintaining the nature's ability to function over time, Sustainable community development is considered as a local economic change which contributes to global environment sustainability. It also ensures that adequate resources are available for future generations to use.

Sustainability implies to the use of energy and materials in an urban area be in harmony with what the environment within that area can supply continuously through natural processes. Sustainable community development focuses on redesigned and improved infrastructures. Knowledge based services, environment technologies and improved management and use of natural resources to create potential significant employment opportunities for the residents residing in the community. Employment opportunities consistent with more suitable patters of development exist in many economic sectors. Some of the promising employment opportunities includes: upgrading the efficiency of energy use of buildings, products and transportation systems, Sustainable tourism activities centered around areas of environmental, cultural, and historical significance, Recycling and re-using of solid and hazardous waste into marketable products, Designing energy-efficient and people friendly cities and many more. Hence it is clear that, this concept serves as a medium for decentralizing and localizing economic production and commerce and thus preserving the social surplus of the local economy for the community's self-sufficiency and self-enhancement.Sustainable development involves the reduction of geographic scope - It focuses on locality. Its main focus lies on the importance of striking balance between environmental concerns and development objectives while simultaneously enhancing local social relationships. With the reduction of scope, it forms the bigger and much better picture. Sustainable community development contributes to welfare of the global environmental sustainability. Sustainable development favors increased local control over development decisions, and such "bottom up" development strategies would require devolution of decision-making authority to the local level which in turn will impact the global level thus enhancing Overall Sustainable Development.

This concept not only thinks about the present but also about the future generation. It's the ability of a community to utilize its natural, human and technological resources to ensure that all the present residents can attain a high degree of health and well-being, economic security while ensuring that adequate resources are available for future generations. It seeks a better quality of life for all the people living in the community while maintaining nature's ability to function by minimizing waste, preventing pollution, promoting efficiency and development hence creating an environment not only sustaining for the present members but for the future generation as well. In short, as Kline states: It's a way of living a better life in the present as well as shaping one's future while maintaining the integrity of the ecological systems on which all life and production depend upon. In conclusion the emphasis of importance on sustainable community commits to social justice. Sustainable communities provide for the housing and all basic living needs to all the residents and it is done so by eradicating any kind of class or race-based spatial separation of households and neighborhoods whilst keeping the integrity of the environment intact. Perhaps the most important, it aims to provide sustainable communities that strive to create an empowered citizenry that can effectively participate in the decision making process involving a better life for themselves in the present and in the future. All in all it is a complex connection not only among human beings and their homeland but also between the human economy and nature, between forest and field. It creates a coherent bond between man and every other entity found in its environment working together to enhance one another.
