Undergraduate / Important truths + Originality: GRE ANALYTICAL Writing : TWO topics [3]

important truths begins as outrageous, or at least uncomfortable, attacks upon the acceptad wisdom of the time. (author Maxim Baranov)
The meaning of the word "truth" may be described different ways. In some general context truth may be assumed as imperative statement or something that is not doubtful. Some other book sources (especially psychological articles) determine truth as something personal, pertaining to the personal conciseness. Everyone has its own way of perception therefore, everyone has it's own ability to determine what is truth and what is false. Truthful things for one person can be complete false for another. If speaking about truth in its general meaning and about correlation of global truth within the concrete time I am fully agree with this statement that it almost always happened to be outrageous and uncomfortable and therefore contradicts with the wisdom of the time. The last statement can be supported with some facts from the worlds history.

To begin in chronological order, it worth to remember about Feminism origination. Until the first third of the twenty's century, especially in USA woman was considered primary as a housewife, sitting at home performing her daily chores and taking care of her children. Most of the professions were closed for women. For example there was no possibility for female to serve in the army or to be a pilot of plane. As some of the progressive women started their movement in order to enlarge their rights and destroy the stereotypes of those years about women as housewifes it was just like an outrageous and uncomfortable action. Male word was adamantly opposed to support women in their claims. But the very process of women emancipation was cal of the time and no one doubts now that it is truth that women ought to be equal in their rights with men.

Another example is that human of all races have their inalienable rights which don't depend on color of skin or eye size. But when Afro-Americans with their leader Martin Luther King refused to obey the government's policy which was directed on segregation in all spheres of human life, that was also sounded as something outrageous and particularly uncomfortable for most of the white Americans to live with Black people in the same neighborhoods, to allow children of all colors to study and the same class and, most ridiculous, to seat in random order in public transportation. All of those claims seem to be natural and truthful for modern people, but not for the people of those years who had been still covered with the tortured wisdom of those years.

Finally, if we will appeal to the sensational events on the near past we may remember some contradictive outcomes of one's behavior. For example, the president of USA Bill Clinton was accused in cheating with his female secretary thereby undermining president's reputation conventionally described as of high moral standards. That was outrageous fact and most of the American folk were not inclined to believe that until it was proven by abandon evidence. All in all, it was both outrageous and truthful at the same time. But this example does not lead to change in conventional attitude to the sanctity marriage especially if it exposed to others and may provide wrong example for the rest of society. This contradicts with the wisdom of time and the wisdom hopefully won't change in the future.

By summarizing all of these slight evidence one can surmise that important truth begins as outrageous, but will be either ultimately accepted by society as show two first examples or will appear as something truthful but disgusting at the same time and will be denied by the society.

"Originality doesn't mean thinking something that was never thought before; it means putting old ideas together in new ways"

In this era of rapid social and technological change leading to the constant raising of the life complexity all of crucial discoveries and invention of facilities that make our life more comfortable were made due to the creativeness of human mind. Any act of creativity requires original ideas. According to some scholar's concepts those original ideas are always based on the preceding ideas. Even ancient Greek philosophers like Plato believed that our world is formed with immaterial premeditated by God Ideas, which substantiate themselves in material things we are surrounded with in our daily life. Likewise, it's logical to set up the thought that originality based on old ideas together in new ways.

The very meaning of the originality might be illustrated on some significant examples from history of groundbreaking inventions, fashion history and even modern medicine which take the source for new treatments form folks medicine recipes.

There are some theories in philosophy which state the idea of cyclic and spiral development of the world's global history. According to the spiral conception all events happened in the past will occur later after some period of time but on the level higher than before. This can be illustrated with example of payment operations: initially presented with the simple barter of natural goods the very process was substituted with money and finally transformed to the modern technologies of virtual payment systems and credit cards. Fashion displays the idea of originality even more explicit way. Some patterns in very fashionable and up to date closing style may in fact be presented by the fusion of stylish concepts of the past decades. Medicine is coherently develops along with a new discoveries scientist make every day, but the originality and efficacy of the treatment technology nowadays is positively enhanced by old ideas of the folk's medicine.

All in all, the very human history presents the evolution of ideas whereas originality is only the instrument for putting ideas in the new ways. In either way without this process the experience of ancestors would have been forgotten and base for cultural evolution would be destroyed.

Writing Feedback / In our time, specialists of all kind (generalists and specialists): GRE topic [3]

In our era of rapid social and technological increase both specialists and generalists are equally in demand now. Specialists tend to focus on narrow theme or subject whereas generalist's main function is to sum up discrete pieces of information into one whole vision. The meaning of generalists and specialists can be explicitly presented on some examples from science. Scientists of all categories can be described either as specialists or generalists. The latter situation in modern science clearly shows that both of those categories augment each other. For instance, breakthrough human genome investigations of the latter decades, dimensional protein's structure predictions and genome-based research about the evolution of mankind provide the evidence, that success in science is fully dependent on how good collaboration between generalists and specialists is.

First, it is worthwhile to remember one of the most expensive projects on human genome sequencing. It was the whole story about two competing companies. Both wanted to accomplish the human genome sequencing in shorter period of time. As the result, it took many years to get results, finally there was given complete information about sequence of nucleotide bases in concrete human genome. No matter which company won in this competition but the problem was of another contend: the plentiful genome information provides to be a double-edged sword! Scientists had faced the risk never to interpret the collected information. It worth to mention, that genome investigation work was done by specialists. In this case aren't we drawn to declare the work done only by specialists might lack of importance without general revision? Can any society dispense only with specialists and their brilliant work? The answer is no. Therefore, generalists deserve our attention in this essay. In our example generalists had a special role. They did all job about interpreting all genomic information and continue to do it until now.

In the first place, they develop special programming device in order to align different sequences of manifold organisms in order to revile any possible compatibilities and incongruities for finding the loci on DNA with similar sequence and function.

The same way the information about sequence of amino acids of proteins can be collected by specialists and than be backed up by generalists. In molecular biology sequencing work is done primary by specialists and they have another name as experimentations. Other piece of work is done by generalists and while they use primary theoretical methods they call themselves theoretic. But no doubt both groups are complimentary and are crucial for modern science development.

All in all, those two examples provide with information about both existence of generalists and specialists in our time. It is inappropriate to draw a line on the sand between those to groups. Moreover the modern tendency is that both groups relevantly proportional in their amounts. Finally, the very attempt to draw the line between generalists and specialists in by definition improper approach. Both groups build the whole. It can be easily illustrated by presenting the Paradox of Heap. Given a heap of sand with N number of grains of sand we start to remove one grain. And we still left with heap of sand. Continuing to remove one grain after another we will still be left with N minus grains already removed. This way shows that there is no clear line between heap of sand and less-than-a-heap of sand. This example illustrates removal of "overrated" specialists or generalists (if necessary). But the whole system of grains left would continue to stay stable with that amount of grains left. This proves that any system will tend to self-regulation and nothing should be done by artificial removal or addition in those cases.

Writing Feedback / "Five years ago, we residents of Morganton..." - GRE Task [3]

I will be appreciated for any critical response to my Argument writing task:)

"Five years ago, we residents of Morganton voted to keep the publicly owned piece of land known as Scott Woods in a natural, undeveloped state. Our thinking was that, if no shopping centers or houses were built there, Scott Woods would continue to benefit our community as a natural parkland. But now that our town planning committee wants to purchase the land and build a school there, we should reconsider this issue. If the land becomes a school site, no shopping centers or houses can be built there, and substantial acreage would probably be devoted to athletic fields. There would be no better use of land in our community than this, since a large majority of our children participate in sports, and Scott Woods would continue to benefit our community as natural parkland."

_____________________________________________________

The letter addressed to the local newspaper attempts to affect public opinion on using the Scott Woods natural parkland for Morgantown resident's needs. And to be concrete, they want to use there parkland's territory for building a new school and athletic fields. The letter contains doubtful issues. First of all, is the Scott Woods parkland suitable enough to be building yard for new school? Would not that all machines and building technique change the parkland's nature dramatically? Is it economically profitable to spend additional money on building a particular athletic fields near the school?

First, the parkland previously preserved only as untouched region for people's recreation, now is precipitately about to be building area. It is not doubt will cause great damage to the local ecosystems. This means human incursion in this region can be dangerous for particular plants and animals. Some species can extinct, which will be dangerous for sustainability of the whole parkland's ecological system.

It is also worthwhile to consider economical benefits and shortcuts for building a new school in such a region. First of all, it will ask for additional funds for moving trees out, technique transportation costs and most important, since the region of parklands seems to be isolated from the rest of the city it will be hard to provide a new school with proper infrastructure.

Admittedly, this project has no either economical or ecological benefits, even so it might be healthy for pupils to study in natural environment. I suppose, there are another opportunities for the local administration to choose the school's place. It might be slum blocks, which are to be demolished.
