Writing Feedback / Essay about the career opportunities [2]

Hi, I have to write an essay about the career opportunities that are available to graduates in my field of study, I have to use the method of "logical division of ideas" while writing. I will be glad if you can tell me my mistakes, and your comments about my essay. Thanks a lot.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN MY FIELDS OF STUDY

Comparative literature is a field of study which mainly focuses on Western culture and literature. Specifically, in four years time students study linguistic, English, history of thought, methods of criticism, Turkish literature, philosophy and literature of different traditions. At the end of a four-year-study, students acquire adequate background not only in literature but also in cultural studies and English. Hence, students have the opportunity to work in jobs that perfect English is a must and also in jobs that require a general aspect in literature and cultural studies.

Many companies require perfect English in order to conduct their business. As graduates of comparative literature department are well educated in English, they have various career opportunities. It seems that knowing English is not enough to start a career, but everyone can learn the other necessities of any job while working. Therefore, graduates can work in international trade companies, in international fairs and organizations, in international companies as personal assistants, in foreign office, and also as translators. Lastly, to have a masters degree in linguistic in order to refine language skills and to gain further information about English expand career opportunities for the graduates.

In addition to the opportunities mentioned above, graduates with their literary and cultural backgrounds have various career opportunities in various fields. Firstly, they can work in media as a journalist or as a reporter, they can work in publishing business as an editor. Secondly, knowing different traditions of literature and different cultures enables students work in advertisement business as a member of a creative team, or as a junior copy writer. Lastly, cultural background of their education provides graduates with the opportunity of working in art museums, in art galleries.

In conclusion, comparative literature department enables students to study various subjects, and in the end students gain a general aspect of culture and literature with a perfect English. If this graduate degree in comparative literature department is supported by masters degrees in linguistics or other areas, graduates can have specialization, and it can be easier to find jobs.

Undergraduate / A SMALL STEP - Evaluate a significant experience or achievement - Essay [NEW]

Hi,

This is another essay I have to write. The subject is "evaluate a significant experience or achievement that has meaning for you" I am supposed to write it using the order of logical division of ideas. I need your ideas and corrections about my essay. And if you can help, I will be glad. Thanks a lot for your help. Greetings.

A SMALL STEP
AIESEC is a non governmental organization which organizes exchange programs for students in order to contribute cultural understanding between countries. In addition to this, the organization coordinates projects for university students. I worked in AIESEC for four years voluntarily, and I took part in various projects. The organization of an exchange programme between the countries that are members of Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) was one of the projects I generated. This project was awarded by the Head Office of AIESEC because of its success. Although it was a small step, I feel that I contributed to the world peace by this project.

The target of the project was to contribute to the cultural understanding between countries, and to enable university students to experience different culturas as well as different people. To reach this target we decided to organize an exchange programme between member countries of BSEC. Firstly, we arranged companies in all the member companies who were eager to take part in that project. Afterwards, we informed the students about the project, and choose students who were interested. For three months, students from different countries lived in different countries, and worked in the companies we had arranged. In each country, projects and activities were organized by local AIESEC offices in order to provide students with an understanding about a new culture and to break the possible prejudices about this culture. At the end of the three months time, the students gathered in İstanbul to attain a congress. In this congress, students shared their experiences and the BSEC officials informed the students about the aims of BSEC.

Each year more students and more companies have joined the exchange programme. The relations between students, companies and universities have begun to develop. Other AIESEC countries created similar projects, and such exchange programmes have become widespread through the AIESEC world. Moreover, at the end of two years time, everybody realized that the project was a great success. I was quite happy about the success of the project, and when I was awarded by the Head Office of AIESEC, I realized that although the project has affected the lives of limited people, it did change the lives of these people.

In conclusion, this project changed my life and lives of many other people. I experienced many different culturas, I met lots of new people, and I also played a role in breaking the prejudices between people and communities. I was twenty years old when I organized this project. Now, nine years later after this project, my Armenian friend who worked in Turkey still comes and visits me here. George, from Bulgaria lives in Ukraine where he spent three months as a trainee. Katia from Georgia, spends her every holiday in Romania where she worked nine years ago.

Writing Feedback / Essay about rising divorce rate in Turkey [NEW]

I am supposed to write an essay about rising divorce rate in Turkey, in cause and effect order, here is the causes part, my essay is for Monday, so I will be very glad if you can help, thanks a lot. Here is the latest version of my essay, if you can help, I will be very happy.

Rising Divorce Rate in Turkey

Since the twentieth century, the divorce rate has begun to rise dramatically, in many countries. While years ago, divorcing was a rare fact in societies, today it is quite common due to various factors. Turkey is one of the countries, in which divorce rate has been following an upward trend since 2001. The basic causes for rising divorce rate in Turkey can be traced to three events: women's changing roles, infidelity, economic crises and financial problems.

The first cause for the rising divorce rate in Turkey, is the women's changing role in the society. After the reforms held by Ataturk, women have begun to play a more significant role in life. They had the opportunity to acquire an education, instead of sitting at home looking after their children, they started working. Hence, they became independent individuals. Before, it was difficult for women to end their unhappy marriages, however after the developments mentioned above women had the opportunity to divorce, and to live the life they desire. Accordingly, the divorce rate is on increase since these improvements.

Another cause of the rising divorce rate is rising infidelity. Due to the lack of passion and excitement in their relationships, or because of the fear of getting older many spouses have an affair. In addition, in today's world people want to experience different things and to live different lives. All these factors culminates in adultery. While some marriages survive an affair, many don't, and the divorce rate continues its upward trend.

The final but the most important causes for the rising divorce rate in Turkey are economic crises and financial problems. According to Turkish Statistical Institute's (TURKSTAT) statistics, divorce rate has gained momentum since the 2001 economic crisis. Because of the 2001 economic crisis many people lost their jobs and the cost of living increased dramatically. The struggle to make a living gave damaged marriages. Furthermore, in 21st century, people don't have the nerve to endure financial difficulties; therefore, instead of struggling together, they prefered to struggle alone, and got divorced. Today, many people think that it is easier to live alone due to financial reasons, and the upward trend of divorcing still continues.

In general, the causes mentioned above result in divorce, and divorce changes the lives of children who have seperated parents. Although it seems that an unhappy marriage is worse for children, many children don't think in the same way. Recent research on children whose parents have ended their marriages show that, these children are not succesful in school, they perform more poorly in reading, spelling, and math, they have difficulty in trusting people, and they have the tendency to be alone.

Ending a marriage affects not only children but also single people and changes the structure of the society. As a result of the rising divorce rate, single people think that there is no need to get married. Therefore, the rate of marriage decreases each year. Accordingly, the birth rate is going to dwindle in the future.

In conclusion, although the reasons of divorce may differ considerably, in Turkey main reasons for divorce are women's changing role, infidelity, economic crises and financial problems. Rising divorce rate affects the children of seperated parents negatively, and it also has affects on single people. Therefore, people who want to end their marriage have to think twice before they get divorced because of the negative consequences and people also have to think twice before they get married.
