Undergraduate / U Rochester Supplements(Open Curriculum+Meliora) [4]

im wondering if they are too vague
thank you in advance

The Rochester Curriculum - University of Rochester students enroll with no required subjects as they design their own college path. Write about the subjects and learning situations that interest you most, and how you intend to use your autonomy here.

Since the beginning of my public education I have dreaded it. I despised taking classes that were forced onto me. I hated walking into English, into math, and into world language. I had no interest in learning iambic pentameter or sin graphs, and little interest in speaking a foreign language. Instead, I loved learning about the metabolic processes in my body and American history. Consequently, I performed better in science and social studies simply because I liked the subject. During my years in college, I hope to continue my music hobby, and maybe gain some private lesson credits at the Eastman School of Music. At the University of Rochester, I hope to use the open curriculum to search for and find my passion in life.

Meliora: 'Ever better' - The University's motto, Meliora, directs our focus toward continual improvement through research, understanding, and collaborative efforts. Offer an example from your personal experience of an obstacle you faced or a problem you identified. Describe the actions you took and the result.

The first time I picked up my instrument was nothing short of amazing, and no part of me could have anticipated the cacophony that followed. Freshmen year, I decided to audition for Regions band. That December morning, I stepped into my audition room, ignoring the endless waves of butterflies. When the results came out, I did not place high enough to be accepted. Determined, I spent the next year perfecting my music. My previously bland solo was transformed into a heartfelt piece and my weak scales into powerful strings of notes. The following year, I surpassed my expectations and auditioned into All-State band. Through perseverance, I managed to overcome my obstacle and continue to better myself.

Undergraduate / "I slowly transcend to my nirvana" - activities, Common App Short answer [2]

Promt
Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences in the space below (150 words or fewer, 1000 character maximum).

Response
As I sit in the sweltering heat of the practice room I just think, it'll all be worth it soon. I take a deep breath and resume practicing my sonata. I've been playing bass clarinet for five years now and never regretted any second of it; it has taught me that if you care enough, you are bound to succeed. I close my eyes and momentarily become part of the music. I am consumed by the tranquilizing legatos, the lighthearted staccatos and the heartfelt inflections. The troubles of the world are briefly swallowed up as I slowly transcend to my nirvana. I stop playing and am instantly transported back to my boiling practice room. I look down and see the key to happiness I right before my eyes, in the form of my bass clarinet. The only time I am truly free is when I am one with my music.
