Writing Feedback / when need to discuss upsetting problems, which do you prefer ? email or telephone ? [NEW]

When meet upsetting or controversial problems, different people have different ways to discuss them with others. Personally, I choose to use email and text messaging every time for the following reasons.

Firstly, email or text messaging can make people pour out their true feelings easily and directly. Thinking of some else is on the other end of the phone when they are about to talk some upsetting or controversial problems, lots of people may be embarrassed or under emotional stress, and the final result is that they say things that they don't really mean. For example, my desk mate is a lovely and energetic girl and we get on well with each other. However, sometimes her over-enthusiastic made me feel uncomfortable. Once I called her and had supposed to point out this problem. But as soon as I heard her friendly voice, I changed my mind, because I found it too hard to speak out the words in my heart. Finally, I wrote an email to tell her everything I thought, and solved this problem successfully. After that experience, I realized that written forms of communication is more efficient for people to express themselves.

Secondly, email or text messaging can prevent conflict and misunderstanding. People are most likely to have a fierce argument with some rude or reasonless behavior when they are discussing controversial problems. Differing from through the telephone directly, exchanging opinions and ideas by writing a message or an email can solve the problems in a more peaceful way, because people have more time to calm down first and carefully consider others' proposals. Few days ago, my uncle's neighbor wanted to occupy their shared platform, and he wrote an email to my uncle. At the beginning, my uncle thought it was a ridiculous idea and felt angry. But after read his reasons, my uncle acknowledged that his neighbor's needs are more important than his, so he willingly consented to the request.

Besides, writing e-mail or text messaging is more convenient and may save more time. We can write it at any time and at any places, while making a phone call we have to guarantee both sides have time. In addition, people won't be bothered by others' reactions by writing e-mail or text messaging. One topic may easily be interrupted or changed by anyone on the other end of the phone. For example, after hearing your upsetting problems, your friends show some sympathy for your situation, and then begin to recall their problems. At last, you totally become a great listener and don't solve your own problem. To be honest, I have wasted too much time in similar situations.

In conclusion, through written forms of communication such as email or text messaging, people can not only express their feelings directly and conveniently, but also avoid conflict and misunderstanding effectively. So I prefer to use e-mail or text messaging when I discuss upsetting or controversial problems with others.

Writing Feedback / [Toefl] All University student should be required to take history courses? [7]

As you are interested in your major, you absolutely would be fascinated about the history of your precursors, discovering how they made their contribution to this subject, knowing who started some divisions of this discipline, like Watson and Crick are the founders of DNA, and Mendel starts genetics, etc.

This sentence is too long!

Or perhps one studies creative writing
perhps----perhaps

Writing Feedback / Should teacher give students in the same group the same grade after a task? [4]

That's a good essay, but let me add something. I think that some sentences are a little long.

Generally speaking, even though I admit that a sense of team needs to be maintained and promoted among group members to encourage them to more cooperation more willingly, I don't think this only advantage would overweight the various disadvantages of this practice

Writing Feedback / If child wants to do well in school, parents should limit the hours wasted on TV? [2]

There is much conjecture over whether watching television has a negative influence on a young child's performance at schools. And now, lots of parents choose to limit the amount of time that their children watch TV. However, I insist that limiting the hours that a child spends on TV is not directly related to doing well at school.

First of all, spending less time watching TV does not means that children would do well at school. The real reason that some students may struggle and perform poorly at school is that they do not make the effort to learn and never concentrate on their study. In other words, were televisions not existent, surely these people would have put their attention and energy on other things. For example, after forbidding watching TV more than 1 hour a day, my neighbor's son soon was addicted to watching movies and surfing the Internet which similarly distract him from his study and actually consumed more time than watching televisions. To make children do well at school, parents should guide their children to pay more attention on study instead of just scratch the surface of the issue.

Since limiting the hours that a child spends on watching TV is only a superficial solution and may not be effective, I think that comprehensively improve the teaching quality would be a radical way to make students do well at school. If teachers put more heed to students' individual interest and taught in an interesting way, students would spend most of their time on their study instead of on the television. If there were more high-tech education infrastructure such as multi-media classroom, children would certainly concentrate on the class better and do well at school. If schools hold more outdoor activities, no student would like to stay at homey watching TV all day.

Moreover, television also can be beneficial to a young person. First, we have to admit that television has a role in our lives as a resource of entertainment, amusement and relaxation. Interesting and funny television programs can help children release their pressure of the study and regain their good spirits. Second, television is a good tool to educate children. Though most soap operas or violent crime television shows are detrimental to children's development, educational television has merit in educating them. For example, my younger brother spent lots of free time watching TV and acquire a great knowledge from it. Sport channels inspire him to admire sports and motivate him to keep exercising. And 'The Discovery' teaches him lots of useful scientific knowledge. Instead of simply limiting the amount of time that their children watch TV, parents should supervise their children, to urge them to watch good channels and benefit from TV.

All in all, limiting the hours that a child spends on TV is a one-sided and even superficial method to improve students' academic performance. In my opinion, if teachers could make the classes lively and interesting and parents correctly guide their children to watch educational programs, children will not only benefit from watching TV but also do well at school.
