Letters / Letter about holidays around Brazil (Correction needed) [2]

Hi,

I'm studying for a profficiency test and one of the skills required is writing. So that I'm trying to develop it but I really need some help on the correction. The text below is supposed to be a letter to Charlotte about how is the holydays in my country. Thanks in advance!

Holidays in Brazil

Hello, Charlotte!

How have you been? I hope everything is all right with you.

Well, you're right! Here it's New Years Eve. Brazilian people really love celebrating and having parties. But sometimes, we don't have such a lot of spare time because of the tough daily routine, so we tend to travel on holidays for visiting our relatives and friends that live in different cities from us or we simply haven't seen for long ages. Then, we enjoy the time visiting the sightseeings around the cities, going to parties, making friends with people we meet during the trip, and, of course, catching up on the news!

Others like myself, prefer to stay at home. Although it doesn't mean we don't have fun. Because we really do! Inviting some friends to come over, surfing the Internet, reading books and watching movies are the usual activities in this case. As you might remember, today is also my birthday! So, I usually go to the Church at night, and after that, I have a birthday and a New Years Eve party at the same time! I just love it!

I hope I have helped you in your research project on holidays around the world. And by the way, a blessed New Year for you and your family!

Hugs,

Your penfriend,

Marta.

Book Reports / 'Does Man Control His Destiny?' - The Supernatural in Macbeth [2]

Hello! I love literature and I really appreciate your analysis. I would just make some changes. Here are my hints. Ckeck ou if they fit!

1. people tended to be much more superstitious than the are now. -> (...) than they are now.
2. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth really would have believed the different illusions -> Would really have
3. while today they probably just would have thought the apparitions some sort of strange coincidences -> would just (...) the apparitions were (...)
4. But they does believe the apparitions -> But they do believe in the apparitions
5. and act accordingly because of them -> and act according to them
6. Shakespeare's use of the supernatural elements in Macbeth show that man has no control over his own destiny -> (...) shows that man (...)
7. He does not stop to think that maybe -> He does not stop thinking that maybe
8. The first apparition shows his own head cut form his body -> cut off/ off
9. to beware Macduff, the second, a bloody child, -> In this case, I'd use ; instead of , . The same happens when talk about the third one.

10. h e thinks neither -> H e thinks neither
11. decisions are what finalize Macduff's resolve to kill Macbeth -> decisions are what materialize Macduff's resolution
12. He understands that what he is seeing -> he sees
13. Not stopping to think about why he sees the dagger; he simply assumes -> I would use a comma here.
14. he probably would have realized that -> he would probably
15. conscience making him feel guild -> guilty

Book Reports / the book "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia (AP report) [2]

Hello! Nice analysis! I would just ajust some things. Check out if they fit! =]

1. A symbol that has a powerful affect -> effect
2. they wrote each other to connection -> to connect
3. that hinder him to realizes that she was the one all though the years -> to realize/trough all
4. relationship with infidelity; Marquez -> in this case I would use a comma here.
5. It captures a moment of Florentino and Fermina relationship it reflects that since he has her -> why don't you use the word also to separate the statements?

6. He can die at peace -> in piece

Undergraduate / Story competition - (significant event in their eraly childhood) [3]

Instructions: You have seen a story in an English magzine. Readers are asked to send in stories about a significant event in their eraly childhood.

Story

When I was quite young, I did something silly one day. Let me start from the beginning.

I was 10 years old and my mom arranged a visit to my uncle's house who used to live near the mountains which are called here in Brazil, Meruoca. Four more people were going with us by Fusca.

We left our hometown after lunch and arrived at 3 p.m. We were taken on a tour around the place. We saw the river, squares and also an under construction house. While my family was looking at it, I chased for occult details. Hence, I found red fruits. Thinking they were acerolas, I took some and ate. And I soon realized they were not acerolas but peppers. I run like a crazy yelling: My mouth is burning! They found me and after laughing, they gave me water and we got back to my uncle's house. They didn't stop laughing.

Angrily, I walked alone. Then, I stopped. I didn't perceive there was someone else nearby until he neighs. Yes, there was a donkey smiling at me!

- He likes you, said my aunt.

All that I wanted! A hot tongue and a donkey boyfriend!
