Undergraduate / I never liked to be out of the loop- NYU Supplement/ What Intrigues You? [3]

There's a 1500 character limit that I'm under by about 150. I know the ending's a little cheesy, so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to change it?

I'm up for any kind of criticism.

What intrigues you? Tell us about one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.), and explain its significance to you.

The familiar theme music rings through my house. "Da da da da da da DAAA. DAA DAA DAA." Then a familiar voice introduces itself, welcoming the nightly news into my home. This has been a ritual in my home for as long as I can remember. These news anchors have joined us for dinner so many times that they are practically family. When I was younger I dreaded the 5 o' clock timeslot because I was constantly wishing that I could continue watching cartoons. But I realize now the interest that it has sparked in me. It has encouraged me to stay informed because it always seemed that the nights we missed the news were the nights that the most important stuff seemed to happen. I never liked to be out of the loop. It also forced me to ask some serious questions. When I heard about horrific crimes I would immediately think "Well why do they think they can do that?"

"What could possibly make someone want to kill someone else?"
"Why didn't anyone try and stop them?"
I was constantly wondering how other people thought and how they became the people they are. The news has sparked more controversy in my own thoughts than anything else; it has made me see from many different viewpoints and has forced me to experience things I could never imagine. But without the push into the harsh real world that it has given me, I wouldn't possibly be the same person I am today.

Undergraduate / City of divers cultures/Anesthesiologist;NYU Supp;Campus of choice/Academic interests [3]

You can probably remove the sentence "That tonsil surgery propelled me to pursue a career as an anesthesiologist" because it's a little redundant. You can also probably remove "of becoming an anesthesiologist" from the sentence "...needed to successfully reach my goal..." because it's already clear what your goal is. You can probably also remove "The journey to becoming an anesthesiologist will be a rigorous one but New York University will positively challenge me." And then instead of starting the next sentence with "Here" you could start with "At NYU."

This should cut your essay down a few characters!

Undergraduate / Science of psychology; NYU- Academic Interests [2]

It has to be under 1500 characters including spaces and right now I have 1422.
NYU's global network provides students with hundreds of academic areas of interest for students to cultivate their intellectual curiosity and to help achieve their career goals. Whether you are entirely undecided about your academic plans or you have a definitive program of study in mind, what are your own academic interests? Feel free to share any thoughts on any particular programs or how you might explore those interests at NYU on any of our campuses.

Over the past two years I have become thoroughly intrigued with the science of psychology. The AP Psychology course I took my junior year was very different than what I had been expecting, but it still fascinated me. I didn't realize how marvelous the human brain really is or how many tiny little parts it takes to make it work. At NYU's College of Arts and Science I hope to be able to explore this career pathway and discover if this is something I want to pursue as a career. As a part of NYU's unique cross-school programs I'm also looking into minoring in Cinema Studies because I've always been fascinated with the art of filmmaking. I remember as a child I would always be so much more interested in what happened behind the scenes of a movie, and I would always want to watch my movies with commentary so I could understand the decisions that the directors and producers made. So from a very young age, I've understood how technical and work-intensive filmmaking is, yet I've always wanted to try it for myself. I've always dreamed of what it would be like to be involved in creating some sort of film. I've also always had an interest in theater, which is why I was so drawn to NYU, because I know how seriously the arts are taken there. So if accepted I'd plan to participate in the College of Arts and Science Theater because I would still be able to explore my love of theater as an extracurricular activity.
