Scholarship / Some drastic changes in my life: moving from Mexico to North Carolina, preparing for a college [9]

I felt excited, anxious, and scared as I walked home alone, at the age of five years old, from the carnival of a nearby city where I was left behind by my sibling. These are some of the same emotions I felt when my life took a change when I moved from Mexico to start a new life in North Carolina. Now my life is taking another drastic change as I am preparing to move onto new era in my life: college. I believe I have to go to college and be successful because I would consider myself a failure and a disappointment to my parents if I did not go. The reason I say this is because my parents have made sacrifices such as leaving their profession in Mexico and coming to the United States to work in jobs that they have never thought of doing just because they wanted to provide me and my siblings' better opportunities for a better life. Even though there have been times in were I would get sidetracked along my educational path by surrounding peers I have learned that I should always go with what is best for me such as going to college. As I think about the changes in my life, I am also planning ahead for college. I already have chosen the field of study I plan to take which is engineering, but also as I think about all the new responsibilities I will need to handle I am also having headaches on how I will be able to pay for tuition and other personal needs. Even If the costs of tuition and other expenses are way too high for me to handle I will not let this discourage me from finding places where I can get financial help and also from stopping me from going to college because I know that in the end It will be well worth it.

I know its more than 250 words but this is a rough draft

Scholarship / My Math Blues. Math and I do not get along. [3]

I think you should change the line "Till this day, I still have issues in my advance math class: Calculus." to show that you overcame this problem, also talk about how you keep improving in the area, and how you can make your weaknesses a strength

Scholarship / What are your career plans and how might they be consistent or contribute to mission of the program [3]

The scholarship program was created to provide students from target communities with scholarship assistance to attend a NC college or university and hopefully encourage them to return home or to a similar rural community to pursue a career and give back to the community.

My goal is to incorporate myself in the field of Mechanical Engineering. I always considered Mechanical Engineering interesting and have been greatly inspired by the times I've worked with relation to the field. I recently helped out someone on two cars. As we were peaking inside of the vehicles we could see the apparatus of the cars changing into a computerized module based machine from an older to a newer model. An example of innovation in the automobile industry is variable valve timing.

Scholarship / If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish - you feed him for a lifetime [4]

The scholarship program was created to provide students from target communities with scholarship assistance to attend a NC college or university and hopefully encourage them to return home or to a similar rural community to pursue a career and give back to the community.

I come from a small rural background in Mexico and I currently live in another rural community in North Carolina. One goal that I have is to enrich the lives of the members in my community and county. One way I can accomplish this is by sharing knowledge with them. Knowledge is one of the most valuable assets a person can have because knowledge can never be taken away and it's always a benefit. I plan to come back to my community and share and contribute my knowledge by incorporating myself into the agricultural field of work. Agriculture in Duplin County and many other surrounding counties is very important. Most of the jobs and businesses around here deal with agriculture. Mechanical engineering is very important in agriculture because all the machines that are used to harvest crops are either going to need an improvement or repair at one point. I plan to train individuals in aspects of the work that they need without attending school. To add, training these individuals will help them become more qualified for more jobs. As more people are qualified to do more jobs the number of unemployed people will also go down. Agricultural businesses that are around will also have more knowledgeable employees. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime
