Personal Statement : How I interested in Cultural Policy Program in University of Glasgow [3]
better future for tourism in Indonesia
Four years being a scholar majoring urban and regional planning, It makes my eyes opened widely to pay more attention to my environment and the society. One of my favorite subject is about tourism especially community based development. I accomplished my thesis with serious concern about traditional art performance in Bandung. I observed how to provide space necessity, in order to increase cultural tourism of traditional art performance in Bandung and found out that Bandung as a representative to Indonesian tourism sites still in need of special attention and handling in terms of providing necessary art center for cultural performances and exhibitions.
While I was doing my thesis, I joined in several communities taking care about children education, culture, and social backgrounds. Thus inspired me that youth communities should take part for changes we need in my country. Bandung, my hometown, is home to people from many different ethnic backgrounds. Bandung is a service city which provides all of the citizen necessity such as culinary, universities, fashion outlets, and many more. Located in the strategic area, Bandung has so many historical heritage which become one of attractions for the visitors. It is also a beautiful city which has so many dynamic changes, plural societies, and multi-cultural youth. Such conditions have provided Bandung with wide possibilities to develop its tourism potential. The potential that I observed inspired me to do the master education through tourism development course which is in line with my previous major.
Tourism development is one of the most important section in Urban and regional planning that can develop its region with more attention to environmental, society, culture and economic. I seriously concerned to develop tourism sites through the effective policy planning, the best concept design, and the reliable management. Creative Industries and Cultural Policy postgraduate degree program that University of Glasgow offers is the most suitable course to my interest subject area. I believe that I will be able to get the best pathways in order to improve Indonesian tourism through this course. Besides the experience of learning with practitioners, policy makers and key influencers from across the creative sector, their perspectives can build my critical understanding of the tourism development which can force me to develop the analytical skills necessary in tourism cases. It is possible for me to involve on policy advisory and consultancy roles to pursue my contribution for my country.
Because Indonesia has so many ethnic and cultures as tourism resources, I am very proud and also consent to make a better future for Indonesia tourism. I can find that community based development is the answer of the problem that Indonesia has. So many cultural tourism places and historical heritages have that bad management and development which actually can be developed by their own community or citizen. I have a vision that Indonesia would be the best tourism development with all those backgrounds which can control the culture but still stand for our future tourism object and destination in the world. However, I know that is not easy to struggle with the intention to expose our cultural richness and the anxiety of our people that tourism development can change the culture itself in every region -moreover in rural area, but I believe we can learn on how to manage it well to have the better future to develop Indonesia's economy through tourism. I wish to make community-based development in every cultural tourism place to be one of policy and regulation in Indonesia. I am aspired to become one of young Indonesian researcher who can make the good impact for my country through the best policy. My dream is that Indonesia is able to make cultural tourism as the best income resource without losing the indigenous culture in Indonesia with the appropriate policy.
