Essays / "What I think about growing up" [6]

Since the topic is "What I think about growing up" it can be personel so decide whether you like growing up and going through change or if you don't like it. After making your decision start brainstorming by making a list of different ideas you would like to include in your essay to support your decision. If you decide that you don't like growing up then you can put in some of the various things you will miss about being younger. Or if you decide you look forward to growing up then talk about some things that you are excited to do when at a certain age.

Undergraduate / An 18-month Vacation-an FSU essay [5]

Good Job! I like the way you write the last sentence in paragraph two: "This experience was a key factor in shaping my beliefs and goals reflecting the values of Vires, Artes, and Mores." I also like how descripitive you are in this essay. However this sentence "Also, besides all the reefs we've explored, another merit I gained from the trip is drawing." needs to be written differntly, it sound like they way you are taught to write on the FCAT, starting with the word "another".

Undergraduate / Marching Band (My Essay For UF) [2]

* In the space provided, please write a concise narrative in which you describe a meaningful event, experience or accomplishment in your life and how it will affect your college experience or your contribution to the UF campus community. You may want to reflect on your ideas about student responsibility, academic integrity, campus citizenship or a call to service. 3885 characters

While my mind runs wild searching for the memory that lies deep in my heart...I catch a glimpse of my competition at Hialeah High School. I am a tiny freshman, marching alongside my teammates in the air constrained, black & blue uniforms. I grip my rusty, gold trumpet tightly in my hands and march onto the field. As we all face the sea of colors in the audience, I feel the beat of the drums in my pulse. Through my eyes I don't see the group of bands waiting eagerly to witness our performance, but only what this whole band and I have put into this show. The blood, sweat, and tears that I call marching band. As we stand in the middle of the field with adrenaline rushing, the announcer's thunderous voice emerges from the speakers. "And now...please welcome, from Lake Worth, the Park Vista High School Striking Cobra Marching Band!" The sea of colors comes to life & welcomes us to the field. "Tonight Park Vista will be performing 'The Four Seasons'. Selections include spring, summertime, autumn leaves, and fanfare for a new year!" shouts the overconfident announcer. "Drum Major's is you're band ready?" his voice echoes. "There always ready!" someone screams proudly, bringing a hard lump to my throat, knowing that this will be the final performance of the year. The drum majors triumphantly salute to the judges and shake each others hands. "Park Vista you may take the field" bellows the announcer as the crowd roars. The drum majors count us off and the show begins. My memory flashes rapidly through the four seasons of our show, like a clock fast-forwarding through time. I feel the music of spring flow within me and see the beautiful color guard girls gracefully leap across the field. An ensemble of brass soon evolves and emits a melody of summertime. The color of the music flourishes, while we all move in sync to the back of the field. The flags of the guard ripple into autumn leaves. My mind takes off into fanfare of a new year as we form into a ball dropping in Times Square on New Years Eve. Suddenly we all turn and kneel towards a trumpet soloist. Her sound soars into the night, giving a new meaning to New Year's Eve. Then we join in and walk down the 50 yard line confidently playing our song, while that same lump bulges up in my throat. I stand on the 50 yard line and face the crowd with my team. We all bow our heads down and look up fiercely to the box office & end our show. United we stand to show the judges and everyone else watching how hard we have all worked. I feel the tears water in my eyes and slowly fall as the applause thunders all around us. Unexpectedly the glimpse of that memory flashes to the picturesque moment were we are standing among the sea of colors now surrounding the field. Every band now anxiously awaits their score from the judges. My heart gradually begins beating faster and faster as I hear the announcer's voice once again tremble through the speakers. "Seminole Ridge High School fifth place! Olympic Heights High School fourth place! Wellington High School third place!" At that moment I held my breath...for some reason in my gut I knew that we were going to be called next. "Park Vista High School... second place!" Immediately I felt the blood rush to the center of my cheeks in amazement and spread like wildfire through my face. The band captain calls us up to attention to acknowledge our award and the memory slips away. This single moment for one person may mean absolutely nothing. As for me it means the world. I will always remember this night, way back in my freshman year, as it lies hidden in my diary and represented as trophies in the band room. The experience of band has made me a more responsible, mature & stronger individual. What I can bring to the University of Florida are these three qualities as well as commitment to the clubs that I will be part of & the academics that I will work hard

for & succeed well in. I will remember that amazing feeling I got when I performed for the last time because of everything I went through with this family. The hard practices that we all got through together & the many tears we all shed from the beginning to the end. This is a big part of my life that I will never forget. It made me feel that I was part of something amazing and nobody could change it.

Undergraduate / "trying to get into UC Davis" - My lovely personal statement! [11]

I really like your essay alot! It was very moving. However, there are some areas that are a little bit too long. For example, the fourth paragraph. In the fourth paragraph just try to sum up the beginning a little bit but keep the ending, it's great! Also, in the last paragraph the sentence - "We talk once every week over the web can for about two hours." You spelt web cam wrong. In the same paragraph, try to re-word the sentence - "We have such a close similarity we are like the same person." It just sounds a little weird. All in all great job!

Undergraduate / "my obstacle was acne" UCF Essay [12]

Very good essay! However it is a little repetitive in the beginning about how you have acne. Just try to sum that up a bit more. Also I like how at the end you show how having acne has changed you, but I think you should use more descriptive or colorful words to really bring your essay out. Other than that great job! :)

Undergraduate / Hospitality Management - my Rough Draft for my UCF application Essay :) [2]

1.Why did you choose to apply to UCF?

Right as that second hand hits two forty-five on a Friday and the bell rings through the speakers at my high school, the whole student body rushes out to prepare for the big home football game. At 8:00, the "Snake Pit" awakens with lights, black & blue painted bodies and the sound of the marching band. Soon the buff football players charge across the field to start the game and I get up to unite with the marching band and play our fight song.

To bleed black & gold and support the Knights at one of the football games would give me that same pride that I had back at my high school in Lake Worth Florida. Seeing how pumped up students get when the Knights play a game whether it's good or bad, is what gives me a drive to become a student at UCF. I want to have that same excitement that my high school gives me when it's a Friday night and the football game is on everyone's mind. It would be hard for me to walk away from that type of spirit everyone has at Park Vista High School. That's why I choose UCF!

Over the summer, while I was rapidly searching for the University that would best fit me, UCF was one of the schools that really opened my eyes. From the great location to the endless amount of possibilities it has to offer, it was immediately at the top of my list. For me, UCF is not too far from home & not too close either. Since I have a very close relationship with my family I want to be able to have the freedom to come back and visit while getting used to being an independent college student. I want to be able to easily break free from the life I am used to, and because UCF is just a few hours away from my home sweet, home this would be the best choice.

While visiting the various Florida Universities and taking tours around each of the campuses, they were all extremely different. What I loved about UCF was that there was so much to do on campus & off of it. Unlike a few other college town Universities, UCF has numerous fun activities in addition to the excitement of venturing through Orlando. A lot of the other Universities cannot offer that because of their location, their campus may look great but it can get a little old after a while. That's why I love UCF!

Along with the location, I admire UCF for the plethora of possibilities that it has to offer me. I have recently chosen Graphic Design as my major, but I do not want to limit myself just to that particular one. If I end up not enjoying that career path and that's the only major that I like at one University then what? Well, UCF can provide me some other routes to take so that maybe if I decide not to take Graphic Design along the road I can broaden myself to new opportunities. This University can allow me to major in a few other career possibilities that I originally had in mind, which were Hospitality Management, Journalism, and Photography. All three of them are great careers & if I chose the career path of Hospitality Management, UCF has a great program for that. With this variety of career opportunities UCF makes me feel safe, and have no doubt that it won't lead me astray in the real world that I have not entered yet. That is why I choose UCF, for the opportunities, great possibilities, & strength that it will give me to be able to live off in the real world one day. Go Knights!
