Essays / Thoughts of the Founders and Tocqueville (Political Science Term Paper) [3]

Hello,

I need some ideas for a term paper on the following topic:

Compare Tocqueville's and the Founders' conception of human nature, human equality and good government. Would Tocqueville's analysis point to the same view of democracy and the same kind of Constitution as that of the Federalists? Why or why not?

The paper has to be a minimum of 8 pages, and I have no idea what to write about right now. So, any ideas or thoughts would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance!

Writing Feedback / Face-to-face communication is not anymore the more effective way to communicate. [4]

Its a good essay but I don't think you should say that face to face is the best way of communication because it gives the impression that you are going to support it. Instead you should say something like how face to face is a good way to communicate but it is often inconvenient and can be misinterpreted, so methods such as emails/letters are better.

Hope that helps!

Undergraduate / Pen Turning is a Way of Life - UC Essay [5]

Thanks, what do you think about this as the beginning;

Making a pen is an enlightening experience. Taking a piece of wood, putting it onto a lathe and shaping it, sanding it and producing a handmade pen. When I finish making the rough shape of the pen, I start to sand it down with progressively finer grits until I have a final, smooth shape. Then I apply ten layers of lacquer to show to grain and add depth to the finish. Lastly, I give to it someone and see their face light up.

Undergraduate / My Father, My Hero - Free Response for UC [3]

Hello! This essay is about how my father has shaped me as a person. Any help would be great, don't hold back please rip it apart.

Thanks!

My father has sacrificed a lot to provide my sister and I with a better life. When he was my age, he was forced to move from Uganda to India after his home had been taken by Idi Amin's men. Not only did he lose his home, he lost his father. After which he was forced to move to India then years later he moved to America to provide his family with a more opportunity. He arrived here with nothing, and fifteen years later he is now the CEO at a multi-million dollar hotel group. He has always been there for me, pushing me to better and do more good.

Since I was a little boy, I would always wake up extra early on Saturday so that I could go with my dad to the hotel. Each day that I went I could see him try his hardest to create a successful business. One day, while fixing a boiler, a spark ignited the gas and engulfed my fathers face in flames. The next day he was back at the hotel trying to fix it again. As I saw this unfolding I knew that was what my goal was, (not be have my face engulfed in flames) I wanted to be able to finish a job no matter what obstacles stood in my way. Every time I approach a problem that seems insurmountable I think back to that boiler, and work my way through the problem at hand.

When I was 13 years old, he pushed me to take a woodworking class at Woodcraft (a woodworking specialty store) even though I was against it because the other people in the class were all over 40. After taking that class, I found something I really enjoyed. A week later, my father took me down to the basement. I turned left and I saw a corner full of brand new tools. Eagerly I began making shelves, frames, bowls and pens. I took any scraps of wood and tried to make something out of it. I learned an important lesson that day, even the smallest seemingly insignificant event can turn into a wonderful life altering experience. After that day I have not looked back, I started my own business and enjoy everyday that I can make something out of nothing.

As I look back on my life, a figure continues to pop up, my father. At key moments in my life I can remember him helping me along and encouraging me. At the time I did not think much of it. From making a bookshelf to learning about derivative, my father has always been there to guide me along. Without his guidance I do not think I would the motivated person I am today. After seeing him overcome what seemed to be impossible circumstances, I know that if I ever fall he will be right there to catch me.

Undergraduate / UC PROMPT #1- Tattooed [5]

I think the tattoo analogy is well thought out and works well. But, I think, like veraxcity said, you should focus more on yourself and how this event shaped your aspirations.

Good Luck!

Undergraduate / UC Essay Prompt#1: My Dreams: Realized Through Dinner [6]

Great essay! I think that the last paragraph is good, I think it helps tie together everything and that you should simply leave it as it is.

You could change ..."he continues to follow the weather now and has kept up with his knowledge of weather." to "he continues to follow the weather now and has continued to observe the weather."

Undergraduate / Pen Turning is a Way of Life - UC Essay [5]

Well, here is my first essay for UC, its about a hobby/interest of mine. What can I do to make it more interesting and captivating

Any Help would be really appreciated!

Making a pen is an enlightening experience. Taking a piece of wood, putting it onto a lathe and shaping it, sanding it and producing a handmade pen. As I am making a pen I feel proud of what I make because I can say "I made that." I do not think many people can get the satisfaction of being able to say that they made something out of nothing, I think that everyone should experience this at least once. The feeling I get once I make a pen is unrivaled, I cannot truly describe the feeling: it is a mixture of satisfaction, and a sense of accomplishment. Pen making is like an art form for me, I tried painting and drawing before I started pen turning, but I found out I was not too good at painting or drawing people; the people I drew ending up looking like a sticks with circles on top of them. When I took my first pen turning class, I knew I found my niche. I could make, what I considered art.

When I started my own business, Penz Online, I felt like I had finally put into place the last piece of the puzzle, I had been looking for a way to connect my desire to make pens with my desire to start a business, and I was finally able to do just that. What more can one ask for than being able to start a business out of ones passions. In 2007, I began marketing my pens to my family and friends. My hard work started manifesting itself in a tangible result. I was thrilled to see my profit at the end of the year. The more pens I sold, the prouder I felt about what I was doing. When I was able to share my passion for making pens with other, I felt like I was able to share the joy I get from making a pen with others too.

Pen turning has truly changed my life. I learned how to design and set up my own web site and manage the business of selling pens on line. I also learned to manage my finance and bookkeeping. I also donate many pens to the soldiers in Iraq. When I gave my first pen to a soldier, I felt contented and happy that I was able to his day a little bit better. I have become more active after I began turning pens simply because it makes me constantly think about the next advancement I can make or how I can make my craftsmanship better.

I hit a mental wall when I was trying to write this, so tear it apart anything would be helpful!
