Summary
This article reveals the fact behind the short jawbones and overcrowded teeth. Depending on a research with detailed measurements of the skulls and jawbones for about 300 individuals from 11 different subsistence cultures and measurements for people in the past 2000 year , conducted by Carmon-Taubadel, assert that lifestyle contributes significantly on the structure of human jawbones. For instance, those people who live on so-called civilized countries used to eat soft foods of an agricultural diet have smaller jawbones and tend to suffer from the problems of overcrowded teeth. However those people how lived on primitive agriculture and used to eat a hunter-gather-type diet have larger jaws. Additionally, she tried to find a correlation between jawbones sshape with some factors such as climate, geography, genetic make up and lifestyle. She found that there is no genetic reasons but biomechanical. Moreover there is some evidence that jawbone may change with diet. Further study done by researchers at Adelaide University back in the 1950s looked at the Warlpiri Aboriginals people. In the past, they were famous for their large teeth, large chewing muscles and projecting faces. Currently, their jaw bones have started to be smaller with overcrowded teeth.
