My future career plans in biochemistry- scholarship prompt [4]

It is difficult to know what you want to do for the rest of your life when you are only 17 years old, and even more difficult to put it into writing. Growing up I was never really sure what I wanted to be, but I always knew that it was going to be something in science. In 8th grade I really enjoyed learning and studying in love with biology, mainly the human body aspect and genetics. For a couple of years I thought that I wanted to be a genetic counselor or a geneticist. Then in 10th and 11th grade I fell in love with chemistry. It put me in quite a dilemma for a little bit. What was I going to do and what was I going to study, chemistry or biology?
When I began my search for colleges I realized that somebody had already solved this problem for me though the major of biochemistry. With a biochemistry major I can go to medical school or into a graduate program for chemistry or biology. Then it would be possible for me to get a job working in a lab, or doing research, I could be a professor and teach, or even become a doctor.
Right now I see myself going to college to obtain a 4 year degree in biochemistry. After I complete my Bachelors degree in Biochemistry I would like to do something different and unique. I feel that it is important to be well rounded so I would like to go to Thailand of a year to teach English to students for a year. I believe that this experience will provide me will valuable skills and knowledge that I could use for the rest of my life. For example, I would be exposed to a different culture and way of life that would open up my mind to the different thoughts and beliefs of people around the world.
After I return from my teaching experiences in Thailand I will continue on to medical school to obtain my M.D. After I have completed my M.D. I would like to continue on to a surgical residency program. During my residency I would like to begin my specialization in neurological surgery. Neurological surgery or neurosurgery is the study of diseases that affect any part of the nervous system and the prevention and diagnosis of them. When my residency is complete it would be necessary for me to do a fellowship in neurosurgery so that I could further my knowledge in this highly specialized field. Once I have completed my fellowship I would be able to get a jobs working at a hospital as a surgeon. I would like to work at a teaching hospital, that way I would be able to help young students further their education in medicine. Also I would like to do research to further our knowledge of the human brain, as well as look into new treatments that could cure diseases that currently have no cure.
These plans will not happen overnight and they may never happen at all. This is what I want for my future right now. I know that things change I need to be adaptable. I may decide that my calling isn't biochemistry but economics or when I am teaching in third world countries I may realize that I want to become a teacher not a doctor or after medical school and residency I could realize that I want to join doctors without borders and provide medical care to regions with people in need. My future career plans may change completely but I am okay with that as long as I am doing something I love and care about.
