Undergraduate / Christmas Eve dinner; UChicago - Invent A Past For Present Supplement [23]

When colleges say optional what they really mean is that it's required. If you don't then they'll see it as a lack of interest in your college. Because in all truth, if you really like Uchicago then you wouldn't mind spending 30 minutes talking about your favorites book and songs..

Undergraduate / Shining computer parts / Greenhouse Club / Brown sup; Short answers [12]

The essays are all good but I would suggest you reword this statement: "Who would have thought that I, a new comer, would ever place first in the Boston Citywide Science Fair within eight months of study in America? ". Try and sound more confident as the admissions officer doesn't want to see you doubt yourself. Besides that I think you're set.

I hope this helped! Can you please look at my Uchicago or Princeton essays? Thanks!

Undergraduate / I'm different form my Mom; Significant influence (Person) [6]

The major flaw with this essay is that you talk about your mother's qualities more than you do your own. Remember this a personal statement. They want to see the effect your mother has had on your personality and how she made you grow. Try including a couple of things you did as an effect of your mother's influence.

I hope this helped! Do you mind looking at my Uchicago or Princeotn essay?

Undergraduate / "I want to be a lawyer" ; Why Hamilton? [8]

The essays are good but if you have some characters left trying adding a few more Hamilton-exclusive things in your last essay. Like add more reasons that can tell them more about why you want to go there. Other than that I think you're set.

Hope I helped! Can you please check out my Uchiago essay?

Undergraduate / Religion, the watchful protector along the path; Harvard/ Topic of Choice [21]

I can understand your urge to write about your difficulties as I myself feel that way. I also understand your nonchalant attitude towards the thoughts of the admissions officers at Harvard because in the end this is you and you don't need their approval to feel good about yourself. Having said that, I must say that I agree with admissions2012 to a certain point because reading a thousand essays does get you restless. They want to see somebody who can not only woo them but do so in as little words as possible. They want to know who you are and not have to think about who you are because there are people who are just as good as you, if not better, that are able to showcase their qualities in a better way. Telling you how to improve your essay is of no use now but never lose hope because the admissions officer might just be able to relate to you and read between the lines.

@admissions2012: is there a way you can look over my essays please? I would really like a professional opinion.
