Writing Feedback / 'specific atmosphere that the school creates' - BOSTON UNIVERSITY [3]

I would like to attend Boston University because of the atmosphere the school has been able to create. Aside from the wide-range of classes Boston University provides and their unpartisan nature towards/with each of them, I think the school has a rare ability to teach students both in and outside of the classrooms. I believe that although media such as books and/or lectures, followed with PowerPoints and/or Prezis are helpful tools when discussing facts and figures, people are still considered the best medium in understanding different cultures and customs. I don't want to stop my understanding of a state with acknowledgment of its capital city or its national language; I want to learn its "secrets", things that a well-educated man could not tell you but a well-cultured man could. For example, the word "zesht" in Farsi means ugly, but as any Iranian could tell you, it has a deeper meaning; it not only pertains to physical appearance but any action and behavior stemming from cultural practices, clothing, and/or family relationships. Such an understanding is especially crucial to me as I eventually want to go to third world countries and help people obtain American luxuries (the right to vote, equal opportunity, and...freedom). Through Boston University's hundreds of study aboard programs and their large international population (consists of 23% of the demographic), I believe Boston University would be an amazing school to attend, if I were to be accepted.

Writing Feedback / IELTS 2 Working hoursare toolong and people don't have time for family [7]

#1 Nice word choice
#2 Have a thesis answering the prompt directly... try combining your ideas to something like "Although, there is a significant increase in competition or predispositions (ex: workaholic), the inclining work hours have rather dire social consequences on people and should be limited" and continue from there

#3 Work on your organization: answer the pros to working long hours first then continue to why they aren't enough to the number of cons rather than going back and forth

#4 Use better transitions, it really effects your flow
#5 Nice ideas

Writing Feedback / The crease on my mom's forhead ; Motivation [3]

For the whole entire school year my english teacher has made us pick personal topics and share them with everyone in the class but it now we have to right about a word that means a lot to us and write about its definition so here it is... Please help:)

Motivation. Thomas Edison described motivation as "try[ing] just one more time" but to me this is a far cry from the truth. to me motivation is that gold star you got in kindergarden that eventually falls off. If my mom were here, her word would be lecture. Every night and some times in the morning she grows a crease in her forehead, when she tries to discuss my grades and the passion i once had for learning, gets flustered at my inability to comprehend what she's saying and walks away. The truth is, she's right.I don't find the need for the gold star, anymore. Its not lazinesses, just the fact of being frozen. If you take a minute to think about it, your life for the most part, has been replicated each and everyday and will be for the rest of your life. Go to school for a while, then get a job, raise a family. But how can you find the motivation to go along with it? I envy people that can hold on to their star, for its the sliperest thing you could hold on to. As a child you were born into it, but like other things, such as innocence, it just disappears. Some people are probably appauld of even shocked by my perspective, giving any example to change my understanding but the fact still remains why. Why do I need that gold star? I want that crease in my mom's forehead to go away, the stomach ache to appear eveytime I get in trouble or don't do a homework assignment, I want to be excited about life, school, friends, everything, but why? I believe motivation is a psychological disorder but a good one. There's something a nerve of some sort that triggers people to "ooo and ahh" at the star like bugs to a light. But the shine to my star haslong faded and hasn't returned. Motivation is an instict, something that some have and others don't. Thats it,nothing more.

Writing Feedback / 'understanding intercultural communication'; culture shock [4]

Is the first paragraph your introduction or just an overview? and when you say "i didn't be missing at home" are you saying i wasnt being missed at home or I wasnt missing home? Then when your mentioning "lets live and enjoy life. I was curious about culture and cuisine there. Therefore I and my best friend (should be my best friend and I) traveled around Ha Noi. I really like old quarter" there are no "bridges" you shift from topic to topic without giving the reader a connection to understand. Hope that helps

Speeches / 7 minute persuasive speech with general topic 'Help' [2]

Haha, its ok I am a procrasintator too:) look up civil wars, massacres, things that have occured that the USA and other countries have overlook and say that all the media, the phone calls, didnt do anything.. bring up statistics of deaths then ease your way into a current tradegey that people arent dealing with, persuade them to help the tradegey you picked...A great thing to pulll in would be in the movie HOTEL RWANDA when the guy tells the hotel manger that even if they get the video on the news tonight (of people getting killed) that people will just say thats terriable and go eating their dinner and dont do anything (not an exact quote)...appeal the pathos...state that we could have all been born in their shoes and that if we have to cut back on our wants to feed a innocent orphan whos parents died then there should be no question... Josh Ruskin(philospher) once was quoted saying 'A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money.'

Hope that helps and good luck
