Letters / Motivation letter for applying a Master's Degree [2]

Dear friends please revise my motivation letter
Many thanks in advance for your attention.

I am writing this letter in response to the announcement posted on your webpage regarding the Master of Science Information and Automation Engineering currently available. I respectfully submit this letter of application since I believe my academic background and experience are well suited to meet the needs of the position.

These days, in the third millennium, it's hard to imagine the production landscape without industrial automation systems. Growing requirements of high product quality, paired with expectations of equally high reliability in high-volume production, mean that the scale of industrial automation will continue to grow. Much of what was previously produced by human hand can no longer be achieved in terms of cost and quality. Hence, manufacturers are going to into Automation which is the use of machines, control systems and information technologies to optimize productivity in the production of goods and delivery of services.

In Iran, my country including developing nations, production efficiency in the large number of factories and industries is far less than the world's average which is due to utilizing high energy consumption equipment in the production line; however, in this circumstance, manufacturers still benefit due to the fact that the cost of energy in Iran is much less than other competitor countries as Iran, being one of most oil-bearing nations in the Middle East, is an energy superpower and the conventional strategy for power generation in this country has largely evolved around the usage of inexpensive local fossil fuels. Nevertheless, during recent years by removing energy subsidies plan; the cost of production is soared dramatically. Because of this, manufacturers have persuaded to use new technologies in their industries to keep up their competitiveness with other competitors. In this way, they need go through energy automation which can have positive impact on enhancing total efficiency of the factory through providing more efficiency by minimizing downtimes with fast fault identification and clearance, higher cost-efficiency through reduced operating and maintenance costs, reduction of energy costs through consumption optimization, high investment protection due to detailed knowledge of the supply network and its operating parameters and long-term operational security due to increased flexibility and scalability based on standardized components. Therefore, industrial automation is getting more and more popular among industries in my country which results in a great need to experts in the field of automation.

As a holder of Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, I have been working in a company since three years ago. The company is one of the most famous companies in the field of the design and construction of oil storage tanks. Since one year ago, I have been appointed as head of the repairs and maintenance section and my major duty is to ensure of the accurate functioning of equipment and industrial tools. However, the problem which I face is that, these days, factories are being equipped by modern automation systems that their maintenance and repairs is much more sophisticated than the conventional equipment while my colleagues and I have a primary knowledge of automation systems such as PLCs and HMIs that cannot be enough for leading maintenance department. So, as my career goal is to become a successful expert, I decide to become familiar with newest technologies in industrial automation by doing a degree in Automation Engineering. This major involves the design, development and implementation of sensor and robotic systems for applications across a wide range of technological sectors. Modern engineering systems employ a broad spectrum of technologies, which when integrated provide for improved efficiency, quality and reliability. The combination of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Computer Technology, namely, Mechatronics, is core to this endeavor. This integrated approach is becoming increasingly important in modern technological environments. I personally believe that by doing the degree I will be able to cope with challenges in the future and serve my company and my country better.

In this path, I choose Germany because this country is one of the major political powers of the European continent and a technological leader in many fields so that the industry of the country serves as a prevalent example among many because of big companies such as Siemens and Bosch which are well known in different fields of electrical and automation engineering. Germany is one of the countries that have been for many years leading with respect to inventions and the production of a multitude of communication and automation technologies with their specific system components. Furthermore, this country offers one of the best education systems in the world due to well-equipped universities and well-known professors. German universities combine research and study. They have been the scene of many groundbreaking discoveries and they are internationally renowned. Modern German universities also combine theoretical work with its practical application and both educate and train - basic research is augmented by applied research. With such favorable conditions, Germany has become a highly attractive place to study Engineering and related majors, for Bachelor, Master, or PhD degrees.

After a broad search, I found the Master of Science Information and Automation Engineering at University of xxxxx the best choice for me because the faculty of the institute rank among the top five in Germany with respect to research funds rose. They work closely with national and international industry and other research centers on research projects involving the newest technology and students are encouraged to participate in these projects. Moreover, this program includes numerous theoretical courses such as Robotics, Process Automation I and II, Real Time Systems, and also some useful practical courses such as Advanced Control Systems Lab and Process Automation Lab. This program is delivered from a multi-disciplinary perspective, thus equipping graduates for a diverse range of modern technological roles.

I believe that as a holder of Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, being very close major to Automation Engineering, with a little job experience in a power plant and working as a maintenance supervisor in the industry of Iran, I have the capability and potential to fulfill this MSc position and am confident that I could be an active, open-minded and useful student in this program.

Writing Feedback / Thanks to Technology, quality of life has been greatly enhanced! [2]

However, this also raises a question of whether technology has a good or bad effect on people's relationships nowadays.
One question put forward is that whether ....

the strengths of technology have outweighed its weaknesses.
On my reckoning, the advantages of technology outweighs its drawbacks.

it is not to say that it is h
it goes without saying that ...

I think the letter is clear and well-organized; however, it would be much more better if you discussed the disadvantages too.

Letters / Motivation letter for student - visa application [3]

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to apply for a long-term student visa for Germany in order to pursue my education in Computational Engineering at University of XXXXX.

After graduating with an MSc and publishing several papers derived from thesis outcomes in the international magazines, I have been appointed as a reviewer at Electric power components and systems journal including ISI journals from 2011 to now. Furthermore, I have been working as a researcher at R&D Department of a company and my duties include designing and simulating power systems and analyzing the impact of electric devices in power networks which are fully consistent with my research interests. Since my career goal is to become a successful researcher, working in a university or an R&D center, I need to do a PhD degree because I personally believe that doing a doctorate degree would open doors to special high-tech research positions or even high-level management. My major research interest includes joint studies of electromagnetic theory and electric devices simulation. Specifically, I am interested in computational electromagnetics and its application in modeling and simulating power supplies. In this way, I intend to pass my PhD at Computational Engineering which is completely matches with my research interest.

Regarding the way that I become familiar with this major, I should mention that in my Master's Degree, I did several academic projects so that in the most of them we considered the impact of various electric phenomena on power systems through simulating electric devices. The purpose of conducting these simulations generally was gaining a precise analysis to predict the performance of devices in real conditions. During my master thesis, moreover, I worked on designing pulsed power supplies in which one of major issues faced was to provide an accurate mathematic model of semiconductor switches as well as to choose the best numerical method for simulating the power supply. It was the first times that I had become encounter such challenging problems. To solve the problem, therefore, I should have found a working knowledge of numerical simulation and modern software. Through my supervision guides, I became familiar with Computational science and engineering (CSE) and its applications in the field of electrical engineering. In this path, I found the major as a relatively new discipline that deals with the development and application of computational models and simulations, often coupled with high-performance computing, to solve complex physical problems arising in engineering analysis and design (computational engineering) as well as natural phenomena (computational science). CSE has been described as the "third mode of discovery" (next to theory and experimentation) and found diverse applications in electrical engineering including in computational electromagnetics, semiconductor modeling, simulation of power systems, etc.

Hence, I broadly began to look for a well-known university in Computational engineering with strong research background close to my interest. As sophisticated knowledge in this new-born field is lacking at universities of my country, I prefer to continue my studies abroad. In addition, clearly, researchers, my self-included, like to pursue their studies in an industrialized country where they are able to keep up their knowledge with newest technologies and breakthroughs. During my research and job experiences, I become familiarized with Germany industry. This country is one of the major political powers of the European continent and a technological leader in many fields so that the Electrical industry of the country serves as a prevalent example among many because of big companies such as Siemens and Bosch which are well known in different fields of power and electronic engineering. Furthermore, I choose Germany because is, on the one hand, one of the pioneers in the field of design and simulating electric equipment, and on the other, offers one of the best education systems in the world due to well-equipped universities and well-known professors. With such favorable conditions, Germany has become a highly attractive place to study Electrical and Computer Engineering and related majors, for Bachelor, Master, or PhD degrees.

Amongst the many universities in Germany offering Computational engineering, I found the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering in the University of XXXXX the best choice for me because of focusing on application of Computational sciences in the field of electrical engineering and widespread researches similar to my interest being conducted in research centers in the university. I will study, moreover, in well-equipped learning centers and work in modern PC and workstation labs. As I intend to continue my education toward PhD in Computational Electromagnetics, I contacted with Professor XXXXXX chair of Electromagnetic Theory in the institute of general electrical engineering that my research interest is similar to her. After considering my CV, she suggested me to do the international Master's program in Computational Engineering as a preparation course before beginning my studies as a PhD student due to the fact that this major is considered as an interdisciplinary major between electrical engineering and computer sciences and the program's curriculum includes the prerequisite courses necessary to do a PhD such as "Modeling and Simulation with Applications to the Life Sciences", "Computational Electromagnetics and Thermodynamics" and "Computational Methods" which I have passed none of them so far although I have a working knowledge of these courses. As a result, I applied for the course and I got admitted to start my studies in this master program.

Following completion of my studies at University of XXXX, I intend to return to my country and start my career at knowledge base companies where engineers try to implement scientific theories in practice. Using computer simulations and virtual engineering will be the mainstream solution in almost every engineering sector, especially in a complex sector and I believe with what I would have learned at University of XXXX, I will be able to better serve my country.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
