Undergraduate / Numbers are intricately woven in our lives, and do not fail to fascinate us - NYU essay [7]

What I have a problem with, is the fact that you were not able to present a concrete discussion as to how you will be able to help enhance the NYU academic and student community.

How about this?:
The curiosity for the world beyond the lush hills of Kathmandu, the sense of perseverance that the people of my country[OR: the farmers, porters and guides of the hills] has instilled in me, and the motivation to move forward whether slow or fast but steadily are the traits that I will bring to NYU to enrich the colourful palette that NYU is.

Please help vangiespen.!!!

Undergraduate / 'Delightful, tranquil, pleasant' - Maya in Nepali means love. [5]

However, I feel like you need to point out more than just what you have learned from the academy, there needs to be a point in the story where your contentment becomes very evident.

Hi vangiespen, is this revised version better? ^^

Undergraduate / Numbers are intricately woven in our lives, and do not fail to fascinate us - NYU essay [7]

What can NYU offer you and vice versa.

Numbers are intricately woven in our lives, and do not fail to fascinate us. For instance, the number of light years from the sun to our planet earth, the number of copies of Dark Side of The Moon sold till date, and the number of ways Thomas Edison discovered to not make a light bulb, undoubtedly fascinates us.

And then there are the number of people who succumbed to Ebola in the past 12 months, the number of effectively functioning health posts in the Nepal, and the number of children safe from the evil grips of malnutrition. Now these are the set of figures that truly intrigue me and which has inevitably drawn me to the public health field.

I believe NYU is the ideal platform for me to accomplish my envisioned endeavors of either increasing or decreasing some of those numbers. Admittedly, there are hundreds of schools with public health majors, but I have yet to find a school that provides a 'combination of public health and other discipline' as NYU solely does. Specifically, it is the combined 'Global Public Health/Anthropology' major that entices my interests because through this major not only will I gain knowledge about diseases, their prevalence and prevention, but will also be able to correlate how a certain lifestyle, or a particular culture may influence those diseases. Plus, I've also always wanted to delve into the realm of medical anthropology and this major gives me the perfect opportunity to explore that field.

I have witnessed how a home delivery in Manang was performed without any surgical instruments, I have helped people determine whether they had a 20/20 vision holding an eye chart in an eye camp, and I have been involved in a nationally recognized survey of health posts and health workers of Nepal. All these experiences have enriched and deepened my passion in public health. Furthermore, through these insights I want to impart information inherent to countries like Nepal to the already intellectually bobbling cauldron that the Global Institute of Public Health is.

To be one of the numbers of the total freshman students with the opportunity to embark on our own intellectual journeys will also undoubtedly fascinate me.

Undergraduate / I spent my middle school summers selling our old clothes - Claremont Mckenna Supplement [2]

After my friend and I spent our middle school summers selling our old clothes, I knew that I wanted to pursue a future in business.

The start is not gripping. If you're applying to Claremont McKenna the essay needs to be really good, you should take different writing skills into consideration.

The renowned business program at Claremont Mckenna is what first attracted me. But as I dug deeper, I found that there is so much more to love. I crave the intimacy offered by a liberal arts college but am also excited by the ability to make the campus as large or as small as you want thanks to the consortium of schools.

Be more specific about this program you are interested in. Mention why the course there is different from other institutions'.

Undergraduate / 'Delightful, tranquil, pleasant' - Maya in Nepali means love. [5]

Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?

Maya in Nepali means love. And even though I have uttered this two-syllabled word- without having truly realized its meaning- for innumerable times since I first learned to speak, who would have speculated that a rustic academy perched on top of one of many hills of Nepal above a sea of cloud would have actually instilled its worth in my mind and made me truly feel it-maya- in my bones, in my soul.

Delightful, tranquil, pleasant- using these adjectives to describe how my stay in Maya Universe Academy had been like is unjust. Maya, with its bucolic setting, is a place where private education is free (the first of its kind in Nepal) and where love for one another thrives, and is contagious. And I was immediately aware of this omnipresent force from the moment a small boy wrapped his tiny hand around my fingers after I'd just gotten off the bus with my friends. And instantly, I felt at ease and at home.

During my brief stay, I learnt how to collect fodder for the cattle from the local forest, and became aware of the hardships associated with it. I learnt how to make briquettes at the expense of being squirted with cow dung, but was glad that I was actually applying the Three R's. I learnt how collecting firewood could be a tediously long task, but felt gratified when the smell of vegetable curry wafted the air. But most importantly, I learnt what the power of love could achieve when channeled positively.

One afternoon, I was blessed to have witnessed an act so selfless, and which certainly restored my faith in humanity. Amidst the chaotic hustle-bustle of the lunch break was this small kid with no tiffin, and no appetite for play. Manjil (the founder of the academy), however, was quick to notice this forlorn kid and, without any second thoughts, gave him his plate of steaming noodles. I instantly realized it was not just free education that Manjil provides these children but he also instills a sense of compassion and love by implementing it rather than telling about it. And this compassion with which Manjil has based this academy upon is definitely what sets Maya apart from other organizations that I have volunteered in. This epiphany erupted a gratifying contentment within myself.

And this love present even when the children were rivaling with one another for the ball, this love present in the eyes of the ambidextrous mothers making necklaces as side business, this love driving everyone to, subconsciously, create this serene milieu made the stay worth the bruise, the cut or the risk of encountering an unknown wild animal in forest. Inevitably, I was one of the members of Maya family- exuding love and soaking that of others.

As I write this essay, I am enveloped by the dust, noise, and chaos that Kathmandu city is, and naturally I am nostalgic of the mischief of the kids in Monkey class, the feel of earth on that hill, and the crisp air of Maya. As a favourite color is subjective, so is the definition of contentment and I am just glad to have found mine.
