Compare and contrast how heroes are portrayed in The Odyssey and in "The Wizard of Oz". Please focus your analysis on Odysseus and Dorothy, who can be considered a "great hero" in his or her way. Explore how both Homer and Director Victor Fleming (based on L. Frank Baum's novel) express their views of what defines a great hero.

Introduction -
In most fiction books and movies, finding heroes is as simple as adding two and two together. A hero is someone who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities. In both, The Odyssey and "The Wizard of Oz", there is a commonality among all heroes. The book and the movie had multiple heroes within them, however, Odysseus and Dorothy both stood out in their own special way. Odysseus and Dorothy share the same amount of pureness, pureness of an adventures mindset, however, there is a lot more behind their inner character. Besides the fun, they are both clumsy and attentive to their surroundings at the same time; as time progresses throughout the book and the musical, both Odysseus and Dorothy become more like heroes as they increase in bravery and heartfulness.
