Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is xxxxxxxx, and I am applying for the MSc Cybersecurity programme at the University of xxxxx. I am passionate about cybersecurity because of the growing digital risks in my community and the need to guide youth toward positive paths in technology.
Many young people around me have lost faith in education and turned to cyber fraud for quick money. One experience that shaped me was when a close friend was about to join a fraud group. I shared cybersecurity resources and encouraged him to develop legitimate digital skills. That moment made me realize the value of guidance and strengthened my commitment to cybersecurity.
My final-year project, "An Android-Based Attack Reporting Application," focused on public safety and taught me how to design secure systems and communicate technical ideas clearly. I also completed an internship at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigeria, gaining practical exposure to IT systems, cybersecurity policies, and professional workflows. Additionally, my work as a computer teacher and IT technician helped me provide technical support, troubleshoot systems, and collaborate with staff and students, improving my practical and interpersonal skills.
I have developed skills in SQL, IT support, cybersecurity fundamentals, and data management. I enjoy understanding how systems work and solving problems logically, qualities that will help me succeed in advanced studies.
I am particularly drawn to the University of xxxxxx for its strong research, practical learning, and international reputation. The programme will help me gain technical expertise, exposure to global standards, and the tools to make a real impact.
My long-term goal is to return to Nigeria and reduce cybercrime among youth through training, awareness campaigns, and safe digital practices. I want young people to see technology as a tool for opportunity, not fraud.
Thank you for considering my application. I am motivated, disciplined, and ready to contribute to and learn from your programme.

growing digital risks in my community

What community is this? If it is your local community, you need to justify the risks by showing the dangers that your community members faced and how they failed to address the problem or were victimized by the security failure.

toward positive paths in technology

You are using a wide brush in this case. You started with cybersecurity in relation to digital risks, then you suddenly moved on to a general path in technology. Keep focused on your foundational topic.

hen a close friend

Why did you feel the need to step in? How did his actions affect you? If this is your main motivating factor, then there should be a longer and more in depth discussion regarding this incident.

strengthened my commitment

What got you interested in cybersecurity in the first place? It should be more than just the situation with your friend. You should have a foundation that shows a development into the community interest.
